Come in off the field 1st question to them is what were you thinking?

Listen too.

Sometimes they are smarter then me, other times we will work on it next practice. Over for games.

Was that asking me if that's what I asked them or is that what you're suggesting to do?

She let the ball go by in the bottom 5th - What I did was give them the half-inning (top 6th) to collect themselves. Then the next half-inning (bottom 6) when she asked to sit out, I pulled her aside and just asked her what was bothering her, to when she gave me the "I don't know how to play outfield" discussion, etc. I've come to a point this season where yelling solves nothing, so I try to reinforce the idea of "compliment and correct" - the "sandwich" idea discussed before, and it seems to be working better than I expected.

No no, no worries at all - I just wanted to clarify. I actually did that after the play was done - my go-to is "9 bodies need to be moving on every pitch. Nobody stands around when we're on defense." In that situation, 8 were moving, 1 wasn't, but the 1 who wasn't now believes she should play 1B for some reason.

Well, in this case, my LF made no moves at all (I mean frozen solid). So now my big worry - with only having 9 available girls for Thursday:
- Do I start her at 1B in my next game Thursday (she's never given me interest before in it or spoken up) just to say, "There, you played it" and justify her position from that?
- Do I keep her in LF (or shift her to RF, etc.) based on her attitude and performance in this last game and her dugout conduct?

I do not want to reward lack of effort/behavior whatsoever, and that certainly was one instance of it, but I also do not want to lose players this close to the end of the season. ALL of my players have been aware they could be played/batted anywhere the coaches see fit, so this is no surprise (or should not be any surprise) to anyone. Any thoughts/suggestions on this would be appreciated.

Worry more about the players you want to keep...

In all fairness, I'd like to keep them all, of course, but I get what you mean. And I do not want to forfeit this game - we are 0-6, and our opponents are 0-7 and much weaker than us. This is a great chance for that first win - a forfeit because of a girl's snotty attitude is the worst reason of all (or at least near the top of the list).

I would put her in LF. I sure wouldn't put her at first. If she pulls the "I don't know how to play LF" thing, tell her very nicely that you understand that, but she does know how to run and pick up the ball.
