Sorry, should have said that they have been telling the girls to bend their front knee to get the low ones.

So they should? So far, I have always been told by others to just change the hands a little and take the barrel to the ball. Problem with how they are doing it, instead of going directly down like in the illustration, they end up over their front foot. Most are also dropping their hands to that level also instead of keeping them above the ball, almost DBSF. Its kinda hard to explain.

I have taught my daughter that on the low ones, her bottom half stays the same, take the barrel down to the ball. It has been working for her. She is by no means a power hitter though.

I'm not recommending to teach what the illustration is showing. Just pointing out that may be the HC's source of info. I would apply the Hanson Principle.

TW's hitting advice has aged very well, but his thoughts on hitting the low pitch are not as well-received today. Except among coaches who take the Science of Hitting as irrefutable.

Well, the frustration continues.

I was told there will be 2 teams for JH, a 7th grade and an 8th grade team. But, if my DD scores high enough during "tryouts" (no one gets cut, so to me its skills evals to divide the teams, not tryouts) she may be placed on the 8th grade team. I am to be on the 7th grade coaching staff, with a girl that last played in 9th grade and is now about 23. Anyway, if I am on the 7th grade team and my DD would be on the 8th grade team, I would miss her games as 7th grade plays home and 8th grade plays away on the same days. I would also miss my older DD's games (10th grade, hope to make V) due to practice with my team.

We have 4 coaches for 2 teams, but I highly doubt we have enough players to fill 2 teams that will be competitive. The 7th grade lot has mostly girls that have NEVER played, to the point that they need to be taught how to throw and catch. I am assuming that my youngest DD will have no problem making the 8th grade team as she is above or even with the 8th graders that are coming to practice now skill level wise and I have been told that those are the better players on the team.

Looks like I may be stepping down to help at practice when I can and still be able to see both DD's play.

The part that irritates me the most is I am a volunteer and have been there on a regular basis. I have missed one practice since being cleared to start. The other PAID coaches routinely miss. In fact, I have seen the one, at a coaches meeting a month ago and that is it. We have had 4 practices since then.

The longer I read the boards the more I am starting to feel that squish the bug was over-used way back as an argument to sell another thought/product. And, I can't believe I am writing this now, but I am starting to believe that squishing the bug, very late in the swing, isn't such a bad thing.
