Does the barrel get deflected down a little? I noticed the path too and slowed it down it appears to deflect.

Sure, there is some deflection. Look at the hands and the path they take.

Wrapping the barrel - too much movement in the transverse (think rotation) plane so barrel has to work down through the zone on anything below the hands.
