I never played baseball so I went to YouTube and looked at a "slider" and to me it looks like dropball?

Yes but not named the same. The softball version of that produces an up and in movement.

'Duck' under the ball at release and it is a nasty cut riseball.

I call it a cutter and yes it does exist. A modified softball curve ball is a slider.

There is no slider in softball.

This is true but I would argue that most "hard" curves that are thrown today at the collegiate level are much closer to an MLB slider in how they act than to an MLB curve ball.

I still say no cutter or slider in softball. They get crushed around 13-14 (if the kid has even learned one) and then the pitcher does full movement pitches instead.

It is an old school thing, typically only mens fp, that is dead and gone if it ever had life to begin with.
I don't think things should be done halfway.

I have been around for awhile and every time a student or fellow pitchers says they throw a slider I ask them to to pitch it. To me it looks like and is thrown like a curve drop.

There is definitely a cutter in fastpitch softball. Unfortunately IT CANNOT BE THROWN BY ANYONE THAT USES OPEN MECHANICS, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE. I know several movement pitches that the open mechanics will not allow because of an extended release point or a follow through that cannot be done with those mechanics.

Your staement is quite brash, bold and not correct.

Can you explain what it is about "open mechanics" that doesn't allow the pitcher to pitch some type of movement pitches?
