Coach said he had an ump call a RH batter-runner out for stepping on home plate on her way to first base. She was NOT called out for stepping on home plate while making contact with the ball as a batter, but as a batter-runner running the bases in illegal order! I had to find somewhere in the rule book that proved this to be incorrect, and I could not find anything anywhere that this would be wrong.
Can't think of the exact ASA wording of this rule, but essentially, a runner must "run the bases in legal order". Is this possibly an interpretation of this rule? Even if this could possibly be argued, wouldn't this fall under an appeal, and thus the ump wouldn't call this unless appealed?
