DW: good..were winning 4-2 DD had a nice hit.
Me: o good...where was her hit?
DW: to ss
Me: what do u mean ss?
DW: she hit it to ss
Me: was she safe or out?
DW: it was a line drive that the ss caught
Me: that's not a hit
DW: but she hit it nice
Me : update?

She's been a baseball/softball mom for almost 10 years, but for DW a "hit" means putting the ball in play. Drives the rest of us nuts.
Wife is officially on punishment.
She reported that DD had 2 hits in the 3rd game on Saturday, the game I missed. She reported that the first one went between 2 and 3. Said the second one was just like it.
Meanwhile, DD said ''I think I had only 1 hit, the other one the SS made a bad throw, but I might've just beat it out anyway.''
So, after Sunday's final game, I had the compulsion to check w/ the scorekeeper, thinking 1-for-2 is good, but just in case, might've been 2-for-2!
The verdict? 0-for-2.

Can't decide if my wife is two steps behind everyone else when it comes to softball, or actually two steps ahead and is laughing her butt off at me somewhere.
DD tells me, 'It doesn't matter. It's the process. I had some good at-bats this weekend.'
At least one of us is an adult.

My granddaughter yelled at me last night, "There is another home run!" I ran to look at the TV. The girl had hit it to the 2nd baseman.
But, how many points did they score?
I had to go through this for a whole weekend once. All I could tell was DD was 12-12 or 0-12. A lot of cryptic had a great hits but I think they caught. Often would say we were up 2-1 then down 4-1. How did we lose a run? I just shut up and said thanks every text and got stats next week from coach.

DW is as far from a sports gal as you can get. I missed an out of town tourny last summer. I asked for an update and went something like this:
Me: update?
DW: going good
Me: inning/score?
DW: not sure and we're losing..hold on I'll ask
DW: 4-0 them in the 2nd
Me: (DD pitching) dang, how is she doing?
DW: great!
Me: ??? 4 runs in 2 innings is great?
DW: I dont know, she's smiling.
