Stagger creates more space to develop momentum. The giant bend at the knees is not efficient. The stretch shortening cycle says otherwise. A quick bend of the knee is what makes that efficient/work to an athletes advantage. The center-to-push slide is a good example of utilizing SSC... so long as centering is part of the push, not just a move someone does for sh!+$ and giggles...
