My daughter is 10 going to be 11 in dec. she is 55" and 85 lbs. she is transitions from baseball to fastpitch. She played 5 season in baseball. I was wondering what you guys or gals think the correct bat size? I see charts that say 30". Also composite or alloy?
Thanks

30" should be great. A drop 10 would be great for an average strength player. If she needed a little more bat speed or was not quite as strong you might consider drop 11. Closeout bats from CloseoutBats.com has some really great deals right now on 2014 (last year model) bats Composite is the way to go if it fits in your budget $199-$299 for most

See if you can find a place for her to try bats out if possible.

The top composites right now are
Demarini CF7's (2015)
Worth 2Legit (2014 & 2015)
Easton Mako (2014 .... 2015 are on preorder)
and the Louisville Slugger Xeno and LXT (both 2014 and 2015)

FWIW - the model for a good fastpitch swing is the MLB swing.

If she's got a decent swing now, her first fastpitch bat should be no shorter or lighter than the BB bat she's swinging now. IMO, at 4'7" I would think a 29/19 or 30/20 would suit her. I would look at 2013 or 2014 composites - for $100-200 you should be able to pick up a new older model of one of the above

I seen one test is to make sure the end of the bat is no higher than your wrist when your arm is down to your side which would give her a 28". Any truth to this?

If you stick with a -10 a 28" does sound about right. You might want to look at a -11 or -12 to get a little more length. I am a fan of -10 drops but you might want to look for a 29/19 or a 30/19.
