I have not seen one in years.

Let's not analyze professional or elite pitchers, as that gets into video analysis, which makes me motion sick, and also many of those pitchers were taught years ago.

But does anyone's daughter or team pitcher hit their hip with the pitching forearm? I am not talking about the glove slap.

I tried it a few minutes ago and it was really uncomfortable not to mention how the pitches look. And no way could I throw a screwball from there at all. I would never do it for a real motion and I changed my motion several times during my career.

Is this hip-hitting thing old school?

"Let's not analyze professional or elite pitchers"- now if they are not our models, who can they be? There is hardly a day that goes by that I don't encourage a student/parent to find and study video of elite pitchers so that they're not just blindly trusting and following me. I also encourage them to challenge me with any information they find that makes sense to them that seemingly contradicts anything I'm teaching so that we can discuss it together. I would say that one of the very best models out there is Angela Tincher and she would not qualify to be "old school" I wouldn't think. The question I would ask is "what gives credence to anything that any of us have to say"?

Doug Gillis teaches the "brush snap" Thomas of Missouri is coached by him and may be one of the best pitchers in college right now, also throws 70mph. I also know of a H.S. Junior that saw him during the off season, parents flew her in from Virginia, she is a Missouri recruit. She threw mid 60's last year, clocked during a H.S. game last week at 69. So yes some do it.

Gillis does give lessons to H.S. students as well not just at Missouri, just telling you what he teaches and the brush snap is something he swears by, not saying it is right or wrong, just replying to the question

The fact that anyone is even attempting to watch any pitcher, live or on video, that is brushing their hip with their forearm is funny. That 'Brushing', when done correctly, is so lightly done, there is no way a person can actually see it happening. If the arm circle is 1/8 of an inch farther away from the body, the brushing doesnt even happen. Someone is going to see that in a couple of milliseconds at the speed of the arm??? I DONT THINK SO!

If a pitcher's arm circle is off a little bit and they actually 'hit' their leg, THAT I believe you could see, not simply brushing the hip.

My daughter is 11 years old and has been in pitching lessons for 1 year, she was taught to brush the hip. Initially she was hitting her hip which caused a bruise on her hip but then I explained that it was a light brushing. Think, brush the belly. She now brushes the hip and gets a nice whipping action. I think her control is much better as well and she has stopped muscling the ball. I am very pleased with this style.

I have an idea. Can you point me to a pitcher who has daylight between the upper/inner forearm and belt line as the arm passes by so I can see what you mean by "no one brushes the hip"??

Not like these........These are brushes IMO.........
