I've been somewhat of a distant stranger to this site for quite a while as Life has been busy. I've noticed a few of the video clips show pitchers that are going from standing erect on the rubber to bringing the hands together and "GOING". The wind-up so to speak is null. I am wondering if I've missed the boat on a DFP trend that's encouraging this?

My dd doesn't use a backswing. Most of the men pitchers don't use a back swing, since my dd was taking lesson with Hillhouse, she stopped doing the backswing.

A couple of points comparing the men's no backswing to the women's double pump (think Jennie Finch). Hillhouse uses a cradle method that does use some backswing; the men's game is big on hiding the grip and ball for as long as possible; they can leap which gets them past the front of the circle; their upper body strength (on average) is a lot stronger than females.

IMO, the girls/women's game needs as much momentum as possible off the pitching plate to maximize leg drive. I actually prefer the "modified cradle" where the pitching arm & glove arm are on the same side but as the arms go back, the glove stays at the back hip (helping to shield the view of the ball) while the pitching arm continues into the backswing. Think about the standing long jump and how to get good momentum going forward. There is a reason, the jumper swings her arms back behind her before coming forward.
