my DD has been pitching for a year now - what i've learned to be "hello elbow"

I cant pitch myself at all... I am certainly not a pitching coach by any means, (but i have stayed at a holiday inn express)... seriously, i've watched so many videos and read so many posts my head is spinning - youtube video after video ... i've read and watch BoardMember & Hillhouse's videos/posts but I am at a loss on how to teach my daughter I/R...

The obvious answer is get her to a pitching coach, but after a few weeks of investigating i am finding that hello elbow is the go - to around here...

where do i go from here???

We have all been where you are. read the IR in the classroom thread in the stickies at the top of the forum. What I can tell you from experience is to keep the hand under the ball, never push the ball from the top, the pitcher must pull the ball around the circle.

You may need to look a little further out. I had the same problem where I'm at when we first got started. We eventually drove two and a half hours away to spend 30 min. with Bill Hillhouse. Turned out to be a pretty good investment.

Ok so here are some questions you can answer considering your DD has pitched for a year already..........

Have you shown your DD slow motion videos of I/R from the best pitchers in the world?......What does SHE think?

Have you shown her the I/R in the classroom drills?.........

Have you asked her if she thinks she can learn to pitch the way Amanda Scarbough et al throws the ball?

Have YOU tried to teach yourself to pitch even a little bit using the techniques your seeking for her?

Last.....And no offense......If you are seriously an absolutely CLUELESS athlete, then you need to find her someone who isn't..........Even if you have to travel once a month to get her proper lessons............It will pay back in spades........

Yes, this is the way to go. If you just leave it up to others and hope help arrives you could be wasting your/her time. I've found if you show them -"here is what you were being taught" and then "here is what all succesful pitchers are doing" it's a good starting place. I've taught about half dozen or more young girls in our community and they can all get it up there pretty good. A few are actually getting pretty accomplished on a higher level. The rest can all make a rec level league fun and competitive at the 12U level. You can do it.

Thanks for this - yes I have shown her and tried to work with her on the drills - there are many problems with this for us though, A. she becomes frustrated because it's not what she's used to and is not seeing success this way.... B. she tells me that this is NOT what "Coach XXX says" (love that one) and C. we butt heads sometimes because we are both a little stubbern.

I have tried myself yes, pitching is something that I could never pick up - I've played ball for 35 years and everything about fastpitch comes naturally to me, except the one thing my DD wants to do!

I think your advice about getting her out of Dodge to someone if only once a month will make the difference. She's 10... she hears her past instuctors in her head saying do this & do that and then there's me going - no no, they are wrong... (not exactly like that) but you know what i'm saying i am sure...

Now, how do I find someone that teaches I/R!?

I would check out Bill Hillhouse's or Doug Gillis' website to see if any of their locations are close to you. Also, I would suggest expressing to your DD that you have chosen to move away from the way she is pitching now so she will have to let it go and be open to try something new. Anytime you make changes and adjustments to their pitching there is what I call a "recovery period". She is still young as is my DD and I constantly remind mine getting frustrated only hurts your pitching. As a pitcher they must develop a very good short term memory when it comes to pitching and truely embrace "letting the bad roll off". I have found as a parent of pitcher I have had to embrace that philosophy too. Now, I show very little emotion when she is pitching. The only thing I correct are her practice drills if she isn't doing them correctly or answer aa question if asked. The biggest struggle for us is convincing the coaching staff that she can pitch well without hello elbow and hello elbow is not the answer when she is off. Once she begins to learn and understand I/R she will be thankful you cared enough to make the change.

I pray that i can do this but everytime I go out there with her I know in my heart I am her biggest problem... i can not keep my mouth shut :( I am really going to work on that effective immediately

I have already been getting attitude from the team's pitching coach just for even bringing up I/R
