Many college coaches nowadays are looking at players that attend their camps on the college campus. They no longer as, a general rule, go on the road except for HUGE college exposure showcases. For a rather local tournament, within a 45 minute drive or so, that's a different story.

College coaches do not have unlimited recruiting budgets like football, so coming to a coaches camp shows genuine interest in the school and will at least guarantee that the coaches get eyes on your DD while she is there. That said, coaches still recruit talent, and the early verbals require coaches to do a lot of speculation on future abilities.

Just wanted to update and thank everyone for the advice!!
After three showcases and performing very well today something happened!!
At 8 am this morning she received a text from her coach that she needed call a head coach of a mid major d1 at 6 tonight by the time she got out of school she had a second text saying she need to contact another coach when she got home from school.
Both conversation went well both want to get her on campus as soon as possible for visits.
And let me tell you nothing beat seeing the look on her face after she came out of her room from making her first call she had tears running down her face and a huge smile!!
Hopefully she doesn't have false hope, but it sure did make her day!!

Congratulations! I know your DD is on cloud-9, but try to temper her expectations a little. The best thing you can hope for is multiple schools "competing" for your DD's signature and to make that happen your DD and your entire family need to put on their "poker face" during the visits. If your DD is giddy as a 6 year old at Disney World for the first time the coach will probably low ball an offer because they know they have her.

I haven't been on here much lately since DD is currently not playing softball, and not sure that she even wants to play her high school season this spring but I had to reply to this one. Just wanted to say how awesome I think people on here are with helping someone go through the stress of trying to get their daughter a good fit for college. I don't have the stress of this, as DD has no thoughts of playing college ball. It is great that someone can come on here and get the kind of solid advise that several gave.

Oh, and congrats Buckeye. Hope everything works out for your DD.

Excellent advice but be careful about your DD appearing like she is not enthusiastic. That could make a coach look for someone who really wants to be there. Also, if your DD really wants to go to a school and they offer less than some of the others, what is the trade-off? I would rather have my DD at the school she wants to attend if the trade-off is a few thousand dollars.

This right here!^^^^
A college coach told me the same thing a month ago, with almost the same wording..."tell your DD to keep her cards close"....

We're not talking about the WPTA Texas Hold Em tournament! Being enthusiastic and excited about the opportunity to experience college and college softball is normal and to be expected! A player's leverage doesn't diminish as long as they make it known that they are visiting the campus to explore and evaluate that school-specific opportunity and fit.

14YO just joined a TB team that is affiliated with USA Preps. They have an interesting recruiting model where teams will participate in a half a dozen, 3 day camps/showcase tournaments where 40-60 college coaches run the camp on Friday nights with pool play on Saturday/Sunday where the college coaches are highly encouraged to help the HC/AC coach the game (e.g. 1st base coach, help with pitching calling, be in the on deck circle with next batter, giving fielding advice, etc.). While there are many colleges from NAIA and community colleges, there are some schools from D1 such as Stanford, Boston College, UGA, etc. I think it's a great way for the college coaches to interact with the players in real game situations without incurring recruiting violations.

Lastly, I asked a few of the college coaches what type of players are they looking for and they said 2018 & 2019 grads, real athletes, and that stud 2020.

Was at one of these like Rocketech1 described. It was neat. UNLV were the coaches I believe that were at the field. Nothing but great things to say. Really a positive experience for the girls playing.
