    Hands working down

Anyone able to offer advice on that hand path? Hope that video posts. Not sure how this works. Been a long time since I've been on here. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk

9 year old with very little natural ability

So, as the thread states, my younger DD, who is actually pretty athletic in many ways, has zero natural ability to swing a bat in that she just swings all arms and wraps the bat around her body. So I started out working with her by showing her a decent body position at contact. Just to show...

    Progression from Drill to pitch

OK... so I've convinced myself that starting with a new canvas (DD#2), I can teach the concept of the arm whip. Where I realize I am challenged, is taking this concept and instructing it to the full pitch. Now keep in mind that this little fire plug just turned 9 a few weeks ago. She can...

Navigating the change from Coach to Parent

Just curious if anyone else experienced anything similar. I have always been a pretty strong presence in my DD's pitching career......whether it be a result of information on here, or regurgitating what her PC was working on...... and tough love was always the prescription for her. She always...

    The Dreaded "Late Release"

I'm starting to see a common theme in MOST of the young pitchers that are posted on this site for feedback.....and that is....the late release. Even when EVERYTHING else looks pretty darn good..... that single flaw sticks out. When I watch the greats...I see the ball explode off the back...

    Radar Guns

True or False? If a radar gun is placed at an angle slightly off of dead on with the flight of the ball it will always give a false LOWER reading than it would if the angle was directly in line with the flight of the ball?

    Has she been lurking DFP?

This doesn't look like her earlier teachings. Pay particular attention from 0:30 to 0:55

    Is it really the SAME?

I just spent the last hour leafing through the Model Swings sticky in the Hitting Technical forum to look for swings for my individual players to try to emulate based on similarities in their start point. I came across a few threads that refer to there being one swing, whether baseball or...

    Thoughts?

She's a pitcher, so for the longest time, hitting was an afterthought. I added the leg lift late this summer to try and get a little smoother load and give her a better timing mechanism. She's 13. I have my ideas on what still doesn't look right...but it's a lot better than what it used to...

    Trouble with the Curve.

Yeah....great movie. But my post isn't about the movie. I debated whether this post belongs in the Coaching Forum or the Hitting Forum. I coach a 14U travel team. We've done very well. 7 Games s far this fall.....6 wins, and averaging over 8 runs per game. Problem is, in our ONE loss, we...

    New Wisdow?

I've been somewhat of a distant stranger to this site for quite a while as Life has been busy. I've noticed a few of the video clips show pitchers that are going from standing erect on the rubber to bringing the hands together and "GOING". The wind-up so to speak is null. I am wondering if...

    Pitching Machines

Let me start by saying I'm not a huge fan of using a pitching machine to work on a players swing. I've decided that for me, learning to swing and learning to hit are two separate and distinct skills to train. So that said, I spent a ton of time working on my daughters swing. Now it's time for...

    Pitcher's Workout

Tripped over this surfing my Facebook page. One of my crazy fitness friends posted it. As soon as I saw it, all I could think of is THIS is a fantastic workout for a pitcher. No fancy equipment needed. I guess you're screwed if you live in a ranch with no basement.:p Thoughts?

Breaking Pitches and Wear and Tear on the Arm

Just a question out there to the masses with pitchers who have been throwing the movement pitches. My DD is 12, playing 14U this year and has survived on Velocity. Last year she added a change that was hit and miss....but just knowing it was there helped her FB. I don't know how well that's...

    Pocket Radar

Has anyone ever used the "Ball Coach" version of the pocket radar? I was intending on picking up the original version but I'm thinking that the added feature of constant read of the ball coach version is worth the extra $100.

The MOST basic hitting concept I don't see on this site

Timing. I ALWAYS see mechnics critiques. I see instruction and GIF's about how MLB hitters swing a bat. I see kids with pretty darn good swings where mom or dad is looking for advice on why their little girl can't actually hit a ball, despite having such a nice swing. The answer is that what...

Velocity Difference Between 12U and 14U

Is there much in your experience? From what I have seen(all 3 12U tournaments we played had 14U at the same times) there really is not much of a difference. Now I'm speaking of the better 12U pitchers. Sure, you still see the low 40s bowler....but it astonishes me how close the better 12U's...

    Hitting Drill...Value?

One of the coaches had our team doing a hitting drill tonight where they did side toss....but for some reason decided to to do it "rapid fire". As fast as they could swing and get back..another ball was tossed. I struggle to see the benefit.....especially since my daughter tweaked her wrist...

    Need Help!!

Our newly formed travel team played their first tournamant this past weekend. I'll preface this post by saying all of these kids are high level rec ball players. They are pretty strong athletes. They played the field pretty well, and our pitching was very strong, with a few hiccups that chalk...

    Scoring Apps for IPad

I'm just curious to see how many coaches have abandoned the "Paper" scorebook during games. I am a tech guy, so I want to ditch the paper scorebook, and go with an electronic scoring app. Several reasons...but most important is I want VERY detailed stats, and I don't want to have to spend 3...
