12U Illinois Hawks '02 - looking to add two players

The 12U Illinois Hawks '02 team is looking to add two players to the roster. We are based out of the Joliet area. We are looking for 2002 birth year players. We play a 12U ASA "A" schedule. If you are interested in a private tryout or in need of additional information please contact Tim...

    yellow on pitcher's glove

My favorite from an IHSA umpire this season was as follows: He watches warm up pitches and the infield/outfield throw the ball around before the first inning. Pitcher takes the circle and catcher goes through the signs, plate ump calls time out and calls out to the home team coach that the left...

    what's a good throwdown time for a 10u catcher?

2.1? That's nearing the time of average collegiate level catchers. The best 10U catchers I have seen and timed are around the 2.35 mark, that's around the average high school level catcher and darn good for a 10 year old. Occasionally the time will start to creep towards the 2.teens but they...

    Looking for new bat

DD loves the Xeno primarily because of no hand sting what-so-ever. How is the FX1 regarding hand sting? Every year we end up with a busted Xeno and once the one she has goes it may be time to look for a new manufacturer. I am conditioned to buying a new bat every year so if there is hand...

    Cleats for Catchers?

DD is a big fan of the Ringor for the comfort. No arch or foot pain at all, this could be attributed to the cleat pattern. I love them because they are the most durable shoe she has ever worn, on the field or off. Like it was stated above, as a catcher DD is not the fleetest of foot, she...

8U softball debate.... Your opinion please....

My daughter started at the age of 6 1/2 here in Northern Illinois, she turned 7 in the spring. An area travel team put together a developmental 8U team that would expose the girls to travel ball without being travel ball. There were no 'cuts' and they drew girls from six surrounding...

    1B coverage

This thread reminds me of the old "Wild pitch or Pass ball", depends on who is scoring... catcher's dad or pitcher's dad.:)

Male coaches what kind of shorts do you wear in games?

Not only are they willing to give a fashion lesson, they are also waving the runner to third.

    throwing/hitting...striking a pose etc...attn Austin/Tewks

I can't help but hear Howard Kobata in the back of my head, "No good, too slow!"

    Xeno vs Onex

DD uses her 2013 Xeno 32/22 when doing tee work and front toss with 'real' softballs, uses her 32/22 Aluminum Rip-it when hitting dimpled or TCB balls. No adverse affect between switching between the two. Should be hitting more tee and front toss, IMHO. Only have been using the machine to...

    Should I buy her a catcher's mitt?

DD plays both catcher and 1B and she definitely can tell the difference between her two mitts. Doesn't feel any sting with the catcher mitt and her thumb is better protected.

    What is cost of lessons?

South Subs of Chicago, $40 for 30min hitting lesson.

    Xeno vs Onex

Darling wife and I have had many discussions regarding DD's bat regarding their cost and their longevity. And once I broke it down as follows she's all in and I don't get the stink-eye any longer when a new bat arrives. 125 swings/contact per hitting lesson per week (front/side/tee work...

    Should I buy her a catcher's mitt?

Louisville Valkarie 33" catchers mitt, steamed by JustGloves.com broken in with infield dirt and barbosol shaving cream. Using in for team practice and catching her pitcher during her lessons... 2 months and it was broken in perfectly!! DD was 5'3"/120# at the time.

Breaking in a New Glove - Right and Wrong Ways

Daughter has 4 gloves and were broken in as follows: Glove 1 - 12" Mizuno MVP fielding glove $65 at the time - baked twice. That was 4 years ago and the glove is going strong! Uses it at every team practice. Glove 2 - 34" Akadema catchers mitt $80 at the time - used the traditional glove oil...

    Leg guards

Wilson and Mizuno do a good job with the 'fastpitch' gear outfitting different sized catchers. If you have a tall daughter or a girl that is mostly leg, the All-Star System 7 only goes to a 14.5" chest and leg. That is a shame because All-Star is very, very good gear. That being said, with a...

    Heads up

Thanks RHCoach for posting the edited version in the post below the original. Without scrolling down I thought you doped me into watching 1:49 of that kid for no reason. Kept thinking "there must be some editing at the end".

    Leg guards

The only issue I have with the fastpitch All-Star System 7 leg guards is that the longest "womens" length is 14.5". DD is 5'-7", mostly leg, and the ankle and toe guard ends just below mid-shin on her. They do make a 15.5" and 16.5" System 7 "baseball" leg guard but you pay one and a half...

    Leg guards

DD agrees regarding the Mizuno's. Love's her G2 Samurais but has since outgrew them. Will be getting the G3's shortly. We have since switched over to other manufacturers for the chest and helmet, but she won't stray from the Mizuno leg guards. Really likes the K pad in the knee.

    First D1 college camp

Redhotcoach, DD will be in your neck of the woods this weekend for U Iowa camp. Class of 2020, never too soon to get a feel for what to expect in the not so distant future. She's really looking forward to meeting Coach May-Johnson.
