How do I make this point to a 13 year old?

I have to agree 110% with the slugger. If that happened on my team or on the team of several coaches I know then dad and daughter would both be on the bench. Defying the coach's decision and calling the coach an idiot in the presence of a player is an absolute no no. Either you adhere to the...

    Coaching Controversy

I love that Marc. I, in fact, am an old broke down men's pitcher and a high school coach. I find that I am just about right now for high school girls and throw lengthy batting practices with the kids getting a lot of good swings and decent pitches to look at. It works well for us. If I hit...

    Pre turning rhp

I picked up a couple little soccer cones. Set one on each side of her drive foot and tell her she has to drive out of them without knocking over a cone. I have had success with younger pitchers doing this. After knocking the cones askew a few times they get the idea.

    Foot Drag

This has worked for me. You might try having her stand squarely on the pitching rubber facing the plate. Have her hold both arms down to her sides. Grab her shorts, shirt or something to keep them there. Without moving her arms have her drive off the rubber (keeping her trunk upright)...

    Dallas Escobedo

Just googled her. Go to pitch is screwball so that would address some of the funky motion you mention. There is a photo of her that looks pretty sound fundamentally. Front foot at a 45, shoulders north and south, hips closed to the plate. I think what was happening is that she is so quick...

    The Flip

You might try putting a black line all the way around the ball and getting her to focus on keeping her hand behind the ball at the release. She will be able to follow the rotation of the ball by the line. It should spin 12/6 ideally. With her wrist you might have her slingshot, tucking her...

    Speed sensor radar ball??

Don't dwell on velocity too much. Focus on where the ball goes and what it is doing when it gets there. Cat Osterman is one of the best at that. ;)

    pitching student video

I gotta kinda agree with Mark. I would recommend she start all over again and the first step could be from the ground up eliminating the feet altogether until she is ready to throw from a standing position and that would not be until she learned the strong front leg and the torque gained from...

    pitching student video

Bottoms Up I have always found that most problems originate from the ground up. Watch her right foot. It never does the same thing twice. Something different in all three pitches. Two of the three examples show her right foot ending up in front of the plant foot. Gotta fix that before...

    Hand/Thumb Position @ 3 o'clock

There is a guy, I think it is Denny Thorneberry, who taught a series of framed pitches. His whole focus was on the thumb. As the arm rose the thumb was in, then at the top of the arc the thumb is out then on the downswing the thumb is down through the release when the thumb is again up. One...

Pitching Arm hitting and brusing side

If you can, try to watch her down motion to see if she has her elbow relaxed from overhead to the downswing. Just before she goes to the release her hand should actually be a bit higher than her elbow which is created by a relaxing of the elbow. Too many kids are stiff armed on the complete...
