Berating kids does not make them play better. I feel so bad for kids on the receiving end of this. All their parents are doing is giving them a complex.
I try to mind my own business unless there's danger to someone involved. If I saw a parent do something outrageous (well, that I felt was outrageous) I might make a passive aggressive comment. Ya know, like turn to my husband and say not very quietly, "Wow, did you hear how that woman talked to...
Amen! What she did was wrong, and I do think there should be consequences. But ALL people make bad judgment calls sometimes and 17 year olds are definitely going to make bad calls in how they behave. They're still growing up. It's old enough to be held accountable, but death is a bit extreme. @@
I am in GA. I wish we could but she's not playing with her team on All Stars this summer, and our travel budget is TAPPED. Besides a family trip we're playing softball in Panama City next month. This stuff is killing our budget! Totally worth if of course.
I know this is going kind of OT but just because your kid wasn't ready for travel ball til 12, that doesn't mean no 8 year old is. When mine was 8 we did All Stars over the summer. It was pretty much the only option to keep her playing, and she didn't want a break. Her rec coach was coaching...
I definitely appreciate the input! I've paid it forward many times myself (in a VERY different field - anybody needs input on childbirth or breastfeeding just LMK ;)).
If the coaches are willing to badmouth an 8 year old, the switch was probably wise. My daughter is also 8 and has been playing for almost 3 years. We've seen precious little drama, fortunately. We've also been with the same coach all along (first rec, then all stars, now travel) and I think he's...
All I have to say is, I really hope I'm able to get a good sense of any team my daughter plays on BEFORE we join. I have no interest in being on a team where the parents get into fights and this type of behavior is considered acceptable. Learning how to win and lose with grace is part of what I...
Whoa!! I must be naive (still just in 8U here) but I found that to be really shocking. I can't believe they can get away with that. I understand being competitive but that was just wrong, IMO.
Thanks javasource! No, I don't know what the tell is. But that doesn't mean much, because I just don't have an eye for this stuff. That's why I posted, I was hoping for exactly this kind of feedback. I'll let some other people say what they think but please tell me after awhile if no one gets it...
We filmed her today and my husband turned part of the video into an animated gif in slow motion. Very cool to see! She's 8 and started taking lessons this year. She's usually around 38-41 mph when we clock her at lessons. The image is too large to embed but here's the direct link...
Mine is moving up to 10U this fall from 8U. I'm trying to prepare myself too. We're looking at 05 and 06 teams (she's an 06). She's been in pitching lessons since January, but in 8U mostly plays first and sometimes short stop. I'm expecting quite an adjustment period as she gets used to...
I won't let her get worn out. Anyway, we've found a team to pick up at least one July tournament with. I think 2 weekends off a month is plenty. A month and a half is not necessary.
