DD was hit twice in one game, was definitely a strategy by the other coach to have his batters take a steep towards DD to draw the interference call.
She gunned both runners down on steal attempts, sweet justice!
Very true, and all the more reason to treat every coach with respect and professionalism.
At Pennsbury a few years ago, the camp was held indoors due to rain. The socializing and friendly chatter between the coaches was flowing.
Jquick, DD is a 18u catcher, catches about 65 games year. She used to go through 1 glove per year.
Last year I bit the bullet and picked up a Nokona Buckaroo Black for her. It took a long time to break in but has turned into an excellent glove. It has keep its shape and stiffness. Absolutely...
Great post, Sluggers.
Failure breeds character and we all know the world needs more adults with character. Youth sports is simply practicing for adulthood, set a goal, focus on obtaining it. If you fail, re-coop and try again. Sounds simple to some.
Agree 100%. When DD started catching first year of 12U, her coaches thought her only job was to "catch the ball". She get dragged to 2 pitcher/catcher practices a week with all of the focus going to the pitchers, it drover her (and me) nuts.
Thankfully a team change happened and she had access...
absolutely the catcher makes the throw. The play should be practiced and called by the catcher. RF needs to know whats going on and back up the throw. 2b needs to be close by for support as well.
Its an easy out.

Some find success with a slightly wider stance, on the balls of the feet. This makes the lateral movement quicker and more fluent. She's off to a great start!
Interesting thread. At the higher levels, size will get you noticed, but most of the time it won't close the deal. Skill should trump all when it comes to assessing a players ability to play the game. It seems every sport has lots of examples to the rule (except maybe horse racing and...
Sport is all about results. As long as you are not breaking the rules, hurting yourself or someone else, players need to do what gets them the best results. I find it refreshing to to see young athletes break convention, or think outside of the box to better their results in whatever they are...
It really depends on the catcher's height, strength, conditioning and coordination. Younger ages usually can't throw from their knees as they just don't have the strength to get the ball to 2nd. Older girls certainly can.
MY 16yo DD is 5'10" inches tall, and is lean. The other catcher on her...
