We use the EVO shield on our 8UDD. With bats getting hotter I like the extra piece of mind it provides.
First SB in over a year since the wreck. Asked back as an emergency guest player (2 girls dropped out after signing up for the tourney). Maybe........
Ah yes the dreaded all-star coach drama. I too would have questioned taking half the team from the worst team in the league (provided you had more than 4 teams). Why were they the worst team in the league? No pitching? Then I could maybe understand it.
Also. 15 is too many on a roster.
The...
I took my family fishing this weekend so a little brag post. My 8 yo caught 26 fish. She was trying feverishly to beat her older male cousin (15 yo) who was at 21. I only caught 14. My little one was precious as she would call out her new total every time she caught one. The older fishermen on...
I see my sarcasm didn't transfer well to the written word. Perhaps I should have said almost all DRAMA parents..... (meaning the parents who always seem to be involved in the drama happening on the team).
I also had DW helping coach and she took a full bat swing to the hand as she was placing a ball on the tee. Looks like she was trying to shoplift a Jumbo grade AA egg by sliding it under her skin on the top of her hand.
I also gave the appearance from my torn calf muscle that it was nothing (in...
Once, we did this drill/game where the coaches would stand on 3B and have the girl take off from home and round the bases. Once the girl hit 1st the coach took off rounding the bases. If the coach caught the girl before she reached home (we never did) there would have been some kind of...
google "fastpitch + your state" e.g. fastpitch VA
You should get some results. The google results may have a lot of travel ball sites, but you gotta start somewhere.
You could also try googling your town + recreation, town + parks, town + softball, etc.
I advise mixing it up. In the rec leagues I was in usually the first 1-3 innings were capped at 5 runs and 4+ were unlimited runs. I usually played my #2, #3 and sometimes #'s 4,5,6 in those early innings. It gave girls who wanted to try pitching a chance without feeling like they gave up a ton...
My DD had to go through physical therapy to help straighten her feet out. She was a P so sometimes when she would land, her plant foot would turn too much and she would end up hurting her hip. Ask your Dr about it. She might need help like mine did. Now she does much better.
Yes, yes, yes. Get them sliding early. Props to you for doing this. They take to it so much easier when younger. My 8U DD used to love to come to my 14U practices and show the 14U girls how to do it "right".
Life also can teach this lesson:
If you step into a steaming pile and you see nothing put steaming piles ahead of you, you don't continue down that path, just because you started on that path. If it becomes toxic enough, you get out.
I too have been in your shoes as a parent w/coaching...
Never wrong for standing up for your DD.
I put my DD on a team whose coach was incompetent. He would not teach anyone but the players the signals and he only went over them once (10U and 12U). So if a girl got confused, she was pretty much out of luck. He also tried to give the signals very...
