Anyone from Northern CA in here?

DD hasn't been to any of these, so I cannot speak to how good or bad they are: Lisa Mize Fastpitch apparently has camps, but their website doesn't list specifics: Camps | Academy | Mize Fastpitch Diamonds Hardke World of Baseball has several baseball camps, but don't know about softball...

    5 up rule - 10U A TB tourney

Good question concerning 'rec league' rules. This rule (5 up) only applied to the 10U age group. 12U and 14U had no run limits (other than mercy rules that end the game). But the talent level did vary greatly.

    5 up rule - 10U A TB tourney

10U A TB tourney. USSSA. No other affiliations or rule sets listed (other than 'tourney rules'). Games have 75 minute time limit (no new innings after 75), but no drop dead time. Rules state that "5 up rule will be used". Situation: Semi-final game. 4 minutes on clock. 5th inning about...

Shhh, don't tell my PC she teaches I/R

Add me to the list for her name. Don't know if you're norCal or soCal. I don't care what she calls it, as long as she teaches it.

    Thoughts?

Ahh.. that built up aggression. nothing like it. Last year DD got lectured BY AN UMP after trying to take home (not appropriate, in my mind). She was so ticked off she threw harder and more accurately than I had seen in a long time. Next inning in the circle: 3 Ks on probably 11 pitches...

Broken wrist - what to expect on the road to recovery

Good news (well, better than it could have been). Only 3 weeks in a cast is good news. And yes, you can do a lot of things in a walking boot (spent 5-6 weeks in one after an ankle injury).

TB parents, need a list! Help

Extra chin cushion for Rip-it face mask (the velcro gives out after a while and they fall off) Shoe laces (someone already mentioned, I think). Not necessary now, but on HOT summer days, get a plant mister from Home Depot and fill it with water (RL Flo-Master 4 pt. Hand Sprayer - clearly mark...

Broken wrist - what to expect on the road to recovery

Sorry to hear about the recent break. Depending on which leg it is, and how they brace/cast it, she may be able to: - work on upper body mechanics/drills for pitching if she can stand on the leg - work on general overhand throwing mechanics (I've seen at least one of the drills from the "high...

Broken wrist - what to expect on the road to recovery

The bat vibration issue hadn't dawned on me until an earlier post. Hopefully our recent investment in her 1st "high end" bat will pay off (CF6 Sprite). I had been thinking she should go straight CF6 (she's really strong), but she said the lighter version felt better. Now it looks like it...

Broken wrist - what to expect on the road to recovery

I think you missed a word there. You don't generally user your hands LEGALLY too much. I've seen plenty of pushes, pulls, grabs, etc. But DD plays a lot of Keeper, so hands are more important. Softball skills definitely help out there with hand/eye coordination. Have also seen someone...

Broken wrist - what to expect on the road to recovery

Thanks to everyone who commented. DD had her sports ortho appt this morning. Instructions from nurse and doctor were interesting in their differences: Nurse: probably out for 10 weeks. 4 with cast, 4 with brace, 2 with cautious rehab. No running or ball sports. No hitting. Will take a...

Broken wrist - what to expect on the road to recovery

WOW! Sounds like your DD has been thru it all. Was she playing softball or rugby? I'm not looking forward to trying to get her to do physical therapy - she hates repetitive stuff that seemingly has no purpose (yup - 10 years old and stubborn like her dad). But I do see it as being necessary...

Broken wrist - what to expect on the road to recovery

She's not going to be doing much of anything until after she sees the ortho (other than learning to use her left hand to feed herself and make rainbow loom bracelets). She's a multi-sport kid who will be missing several events (basketball tourney, futsal) in addition to the upcoming TB...

Broken wrist - what to expect on the road to recovery

All good inputs. Thanks! As for the bunting - yes, I wasn't going to have her do any of that until several weeks down the road, as I was also concerned about the impact (jarring). As for growth plate - don't know. At the urgent care on the mountain, they didn't mention it. The break is...

Broken wrist - what to expect on the road to recovery

Family was enjoying a weekend snowboarding on the meager snowpack (Tahoe) this weekend when the inevitable happened - 10 year old DD loses it near the end of a run and breaks her fall with an outstretched right (throwing) arm. Yup - broken wrist (Distal Radial fracture - non-displaced)...
