The question is why schedule this game in the first place. Does anyone on either side get anything from this matchup?
Great questions!Does it make anyone better?
Remember being on the coaching staff for a junior college and we had the preseason opportunity to play UCLA.
Was there learning involved?
What it did was give the players at the JC an opportunity to be on the field at a level they hadn't previously been exposed to. Was it necessary? That could be a flip of the coin either way ?
Definitely no high expectations the JC team would hold up against UCLA.
Was it demoralizing for some of the JC players? Could have been.
Was it an opportunity for the JC players to step up to compete as best they could. Definitely!
After the game the team got to go on a tour of UCLA softball facilities including inside they're awesome softball team rooms. Which I thoroughly enjoyed and in perspective put to shame some of the other D1 programs team rooms have seen.
imo What came out of the day was showing JC players that had interest in developing themselves to go play for a four-year College the opportunity to see something greater than a JC College. But I don't think that was something all of the players necessarily needed or wanted to see. Because not all players have those goals.
To my knowledge UCLA did not post anything as to a score about the game. Rather simply reported preseason play getting ready for season.
