See this as a level shoulder, arm powered swing, that avoids stretch-and-fire like mechanics.

A take on a pitch away followed by turning on an inside pitch. It seems that takes may tell more about a swing than the swing itself.

I agree that takes can tell you a LOT about a swing. I would want to see her getting on plane earlier. The barrel is still upright as she takes that pitch which would indicate a more "handsy" swing. Different angle here, but Donaldson takes are a thing of beauty:

Batdragon - Is there a particular reason for the straight-arm setup?

No particular reason. She has done that herself. She likes to pullback and feel a connection in her scap while in her stance and that seems to decrease the angle in her front arm. I have sort of let her just feel it out and do what feels right. She mainly focuses on staying relaxed while at the same time trying to stay connected. Also, she didnt even notice she does a higher leg kick until i showed her the video. She says it just feels natural. The front arm bugs me from a look perspective but during the load she puts brings it back to a better angle prior to launch.

This feel of connection is out of sequence and is being lost prematurely.

I appreciate the observations... but I think a lot of the comments are just based on surface components.

For example, she can change back and forth between these 2 swings instantly just by modifying her starting stance. (narrow & open vs. wider).

Yes... I think Donaldson flattens like that as a reaction to the direction and magnitude that he tips. I think tipping in that direction with that amount of force may not work as well in softball because the swing plane is slightly different in softball. But tipping does definitely help create a greater stretch on the rear side.

The direction, magnitude and timing of the tip does affect swing plane.

Does anyone feel that Donaldson is "hand loading" in the gif? It does not seem like he is using his hip/core/torso to get his hands back
