I saw her hitting video. She looks athletic. And if her mindset is as you indicated - geeze Louise!- sign me up. You just need to find a coach that has a clue and is willing to coach her up.

I remember my dd had a HS coach in a different sport who treated my dd pretty poorly. I was very upset with this coach and it was hard to not verbally blast her. My dd would kill me in my sleep if I did, so I kept it to myself (I joke) But after her Junior season I asked her if she would play volleyball her senior year and she said of course, I explained that I know she doesn't like how the coach treats her and I would understand if she decided that some free time her senior year might be nice (and you can work on your pitching all winter) She looked at me and said, "I won't let someone push me from doing something I like to do, so I won't quit because of her"

One of the proudest moment's of my life. I think your dd is having one of those same moments.

Sounds like a very good answer. Glad she did not let the negativity discourage her.

My question to the OP is how did your DD take your "Executive Decision"?

She was mad...She felt like if she didn't play it was because she wasn't good enough to play and she felt that she could work hard enough to earn playing time. She isn't as upset now but still doesn't want to play travel ball until after rec ball is over. She says she just want to have fun and believes if she goes to another team, she will just sit the bench and won't play and sitting all tournament is not fun.
My daughter will be going to The Packaged Deal in two weeks to work on pitching, batting and infield/outfield. I figure since she believes she needs improvement to earn playing time, then finding her clinics and asking questions will help her reach her goal.

It would be great if we could find a team that is willing to work with raw talent instead of wanting the already polished player. The main reason we went to a brand new team that just started.

I wish your DD the best and hope that she finds this to be a speed bump on the way to much better things!

Good luck. I would just make sure the coach has a clear understanding of where you are coming from (from a team she wasn't good enough to play on and wouldn't work with her to become that player), what your daughter's goals are (get better as quickly as possible) and that your daughter has the work eithic (I hope, sure sounds like it) to make it happen. Ask the coach for an intitial appraisal and get back to work.

I'm guessing that she would be welcomed much more by an established team. An established team's coach will have most everything put together on the team so that they can focus more on a project/unpolished player.

Have you considered her playing as a guest player on numerous other teams of various levels (A-B-C) for the next several weekends? That would give her a chance to scout out teams/coaches that she may want to play for. You will know if it is a fit before you and she make a commitment. I fear that she will fall further behind just playing 12-20 games in a rec.league. Our TB teams around here play that in a two week span.

Crystol - I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we appreciate your honesty about the situation. It was a difficult decision and you didn't take it lightly or sugar coat it for us. Thanks for sharing. Wish her and you the best of luck.
