My thoughts:
1. If the intent is to teach rec ball coaches and increase their skills be sure there is no "arrogance" associated with the outreach
2. Fully agree coaches should be coached be it from outside organizations or from within.
and Ill get on my soap box:
1. Every coach that uses the "I played XYZ years in ABC college/school etc" as a way to justify their skills is usually masking their own insecurity or letting their unfounded arrogance come through.

1. Totally agree
2. I think we need it!
3. I started that way. Now I say, "I played baseball, but this is not baseball!" I tell my parents that I am still learning a lot about this game every day, every practice, every game, and that I am trying to give what I learn to the girls.

Don't do this without a good session on how to run efficient and organized practices. Rec coaches have very limited practice time and they can't afford to waste it.

As part of our coaches session we provide a practice plan and philosophy and several practice plans they can follow and then this is where our mentor program comes in. . We have 6 coaches who are available to run a practice/help run a practice if asked and are also tasked with watching and monitoring team practices and can step in if we see anyone not running good practice (e.g. no 1 player bats, everyone fields and rotate boring practices).

You have to have full commitment from everyone involved. A level of consistency in teaching the same things and philosophy, running the same sort of skill drills, etc - and most importantly the authority to remove coaches who don't want to be part of the big picture.

I'd love to get to that level of buy-in! I think at this point I'll be happy just to get my league commish to go for anything. I'm hopeful, he coached TB for a long time and I think he'd be happy with better coaching in the league.

There is NO separate philosophy for coaching girls and boys...

It appears that Margie Wright disagrees:

I read an interview with Anson Dorrance, the great North Carolina women's soccer coach, a few years back and he talked quite a bit about how he had to adapt to coaching women because he found it to be quite a bit different than coaching men.
