I see alot of talk here about travel ball and Rec ball.

What exactly are you talking about with the term Rec ball?
All we have here is Little League, But each town has a team sometimes two and we travel to them and them to us about 35-65 miles one way.

We have no ASA it is simply too expensive to go 40 miles to practice and pay 400$ to sighn up and then not make the team. We usually only have one team so no matter the league it would be the same girls.

This years team had girls from 9-12 and one had ever played softball.
Now some of the teams we face are part or all ASA girls so coaching is a challenge so is winning.

But we manage to put together some real good teams sometimes.

One good thing is that this year LL got a Softball director, witch they have never had before You can see some results already.

you folks that live in places that can acually have tryouts are lucky indeed.

Little League would be considered rec ball in most people's eyes. They don't do a lot of traveling, such as the travel teams that will often travel hours and hours away to play in a tournament. Little League is for the less serious players, in most areas. In my area, TB is not dominant. Rec ball is, we have excellent programs. Each town in our small county (about 18,000 folks for the ENTIRE county) has teams, each has its own field where teams practice and play. We are not a pony team, however we play be some Pony rules, modified to our needs.

Little League is what our town does, so it has both serious players as well as girls who at 12 have decided to play for the first time. we also have a few Travel teams (which we call "Tournament Teams" because that's what they play) in nearby towns, so a few girls from our town are on some of those teams. We also have an inter-town summer league that is made up of rec teams from different towns that travel. Some are the next towns over while the rest are farther away. The only catch with the summer league is you need to have a coach which we don't have every year.

The entire northern California region is dominated by ASA. Our rec league has about 240-250 girls each spring season. 'Tryouts' are in February, twice-a-week practices begin in March, and then the games are played in April-May, one during the week, and one on Saturdays. We normally have six or seven t-ball (6u), six 8u, four 10u, two or three 12u, and one or two 14u team. We have a 16u team about once every other season.

In the 6u, 8u, and 10u divisions, our town's teams only play one another, which is pretty boring for the 10u girls. The 12u and 14u teams play teams from other rec leagues in the region. Although 'travel' is involved, it doesn't come close to the level of play you would see in travel ball.

Our 10u, 12u, and 14u programs field an all-star team which plays in the 'B' level of tournaments during summer. Even though we're 'C' level in terms of competitiveness, the size of our league dictates that we must play 'B'.

Our fall ball numbers vary quite a bit, but this year, we expect to have two 8u, two 10u, a 12u, and a 14u team. Again, games will be played against teams from rec leagues in other towns, with the 8u and 10u facing one another once during the season. The fall season begins and ends with a regional tournament.

OK I get what most of you have for what you call rec ball. Our LL got a lot tougher this year because a bunch of the girls that normally just play travel ball couldnt do it due to cost.
I dont know about in other areas but the economy has really hurt people here. Not many people can afford travel ball.

How good a girl is isnt as important as how much money her parents have. We used to go to special games tournaments and stay for a weekend but couldnt this year.

It was amazing that we would play out of area teams with some real good travel players and come back to the local area and play much better than we had all season.
