My takeaway wasn't so much that the team broke up or even that the break up was communicated by text (neither of which are great, but not necessarily terrible either), but rather that the coaches all made sure that their daughters had already found new teams before letting the rest of the team know about the breakup. That's the real shame in this.
This is one of the reasons that I encourage my DD to guest play with teams. DD is in one of the premier organizations in our area and when we joined I told HC that DD would from time to time guest play with teams.
He didn't like it but I made it clear that we would only play if the team had nothing going on that day and only to help a team that was in true need.
There are major benefits to guest playing... In this example DD would have a team to pick right up with.
