Need some advice. DD is second year 12u. Pitches and plays a little third. Her new team has been playing her at first base as well. She has a 12" Vinci custom that is awesome, but seems to run a little smaller than some other 12" glove. I am thinking about getting her a bigger glove for first base. Would you guys just get a cheaper 12.75 or so glove that she could also use if she was in the outfield or go with a 13" Mitt? Would like to spend less than a $100 bucks as she will be pitching good bit and spend some time at 3rd. What do you guys think?

I would try to get her off 1st.

DD does not catch and has only 1 glove she is comfortable with, P, IF and OF.

She might sleep with the dang thing during the season.

My DD pitched and played a little 1B and was comfortable using her Vinci BV1929-L while playing 1st. Not sure I would spend the money on a special 1B glove unless your DD plays there full time.

I have a little-used Mizuno MVP-series 1B mitt that I would let go for pretty cheap. PM me if interested.

Another good budget option for a part-time 1B player...Vinci Fortus. Contact Drakemir for the best deal.

Yea we have the Fortus 1b glove- would be under 100 for sure. quick and easy to break in at least.

At 12U, she's just fine with a good custom infielder's glove. 12" may be a little small for 1st, even at that age. Think about multi-tasking positions, because a utility player is a good coach's finest compliment. She should strive to play every position well, as she may be asked to play anywhere 1-9.

Let her get some games in at 1st and see how she likes it. If she does, you've got a couple great offers already.

1st is a highly rewarding position, great place to play on the infield. Highly skilled position to play, and if she has good coaching, she'll absolutely love the challenge. :)

She's on a new team. Had played almost no first. Had only a couple of practices in the fall and jumped in a local tournament. About 5 minutes before the game, coaches were trying to figure out who could play first. She drew the straw and did a good job. We don't have to do anything right now, but will see how it plays out. thanks for all the advice and opinions.

Don't buy a 12yo a 13 inch glove of any kind.

Mizuno makes a line of very nice youth-sized (12.5) 1B mitts that work great for FP softball. Most can be bought for $50-70.
