My twins had their first 14u tournament, with essentially a new team, this weekend. The team did not do so well but my DDs did.

DD2, who only began pitching 10 weeks ago, started the first game on Saturday. She pitched well, but the team did not back her up. My DD did not lose her composure and kept on throwing strikes until the end. On Sunday, DD2 started the first game of bracket play. I was amazed she got that start too. I am still sort of stunned she got those two starts, being so new to pitching.

DD1, a catcher, did well, so well I am also stunned. She got all three MVP medals on Saturday. She so impressed an ump that he walked up to DD1's head coach and told her he really liked how she played.

Our girls have been in school ball but it's finally coming to an end. We had our first almost-full team practice yesterday, only missing one player. A player and volunteer coach from a local D1 university ran most of the practice, which the girls LOVED. I was watching them and realizing, we're going to have a good team this year. They're meshing really well and I think we'll have very few defensive holes. We have a 2 game friendly next weekend. I'm really looking forward to watching them all.

I survived a 95 degree with no wind or clouds, boy it was hot.

By the way, DD did OK.

We only have a home plate umpire, player on our team is stealing 2nd and slides. Dust storm. There is no way umpire can see past circle let alone the base. I guess they have to pick something but it was a lucky quess at best. Good news is no one could argue with them because no one else could see anything either. :)

DD (first year 10U) made one of the most spectacular plays of her young playing career while playing 1B.

There was a dropped third strike. C tried to tag the runner, but the runner was too fast so C gave up after a couple of steps and made a throw that looked like it was headed into right field. DD came off the bag quickly and stretched as far as she could, backhanding the ball. Then she spun around and ran back to the bag, barely beating the runner.

You could see her coach winding up to bark at the catcher for the bad throw, and then he totally changed gears when DD snagged that ball out of the air.

So now, in addition to my DD2 playing travel ball, I have DD3 and DD4 playing in their first year of rec ball (Little League) on the same team! This weekend the two younger girls played in their second game and both got hits and both scored! Team lost by one but they have played great and are having a ball.

My DD2 who is in her second season of TB had a tournament this weekend and they came in 2nd place going 5-1 on the tournament. She started at pitcher for 3 games and won 2. She pitched the championship game which they lost 1-0 and she pitched lights out. Game went 4 innings, she struck out 6, 0 walks, 3 hits, 1 unearned run (first batter of game got on by a weak hit and eventually scored from third on a catchable passed ball). She threw 57 pitches and of those 40 were strikes. Team had a couple of chances to get a run across but some baserunning errors and lack of bat kept us scoreless. For the tournament in all she pitched 10 innings, gave up 5 hits, 2 earned runs, struck out 17, gave up 7 walks. It was a great weekend and she's looking forward to next weekend now!

DD's team played in their MS EOS - didn't do that well - teams they played against were comprised of a lot of A level TB players against her team of rec players.
DD made some good plays though - caught a line drive and made some good outs at SS.
Monday - her rec team played and DD pitched. Had 4 K's in one inning ;) Still trying to get our catcher to deal with D3S. She keeps throwing back to DD. For one, she did it fast enough that DD was able to throw to 1B but the second one, she didn't :/
She caught when she wasn't pitching and had a great pick off play at 3rd as well.
Oh and we've been really working with her to swing faster and one of her hits actually went to the left last nite. Wasn't a great hit but she did make it on base.

Thanks for the morning laugh.

Dd11 played her first tournament with her new 12u team. They've only had four practices so far. It appears she's their #2 catcher, which I'm happy with because she's only been catching since February (for LL). She just started lessons in June. During the second game, the PU told her on a low pitch that her frame was good-it was just too low of a ball. Her framing did look great-no jerking, just an all in one motion with the catch.
