Paige Parker - striding both sides?

i was watching the OK vs Wichita game and took notice of Paige's stride to both sides. Java's notes indicate that it is beneficial to stride to the left (RHP) of your drive line/foot. stride left stride right both pitches seem to end on the outside (RH). can someone explain why this...

does shoulder or hips open the body?

when striding out, i know that you have to stay closed up until 3 o'clock, but after that, does the hips drive the shoulders or shoulders drive the hips to get open?

    Umpire would NOT call strikes

DD"s team played their final showcase this past weekend. while it was good DD's team went 5-1, one umpire just would not call strikes! when DD"s catcher asked, why, he said: "You're not catching the ball out in front so i'm not going to call it" huh? what the heck does that mean? anyone?

    Pre-motion body lean foward

What are the benefits of a lower pre-motion body lean? while it varies among pitchers, the best seem to do lean almost more - close to 90 degrees.

    Days Rest before tournament

how many days rest do you give your pitcher before a HS (16/18u) tournament? DD takes friday's off before a weekend tourny and practices pitching about 3 to 4 days out of the last five. is that enough rest or should it be 2 days? what do you give your DD's?

    Best way to cool down

DD's team will be playing/pitching this weekend in close to 100 degree heat. What's the best way to cool down? I know frog-togs are great but recent rules of 1 cooler per team makes it difficult to bring a personal cooler to put the FT in. any one used those misting fans? which ones work...

    Hard to Watch

in a recent 16U tournament, I observed quite a few pitchers that were IP. some were actually quite painful to watch. Blue didn't call it, parents were cheering on K's. and some were very legal. dang - how do you upload a GIF? it seems to come in as a jpg!

BREANNA MACHA of ASU called for illegal pitch

in tonight's ASU vs UNC game, Breanna Macha was called for an IP! holy cow! they do see it when pitchers stride outside of the pitching lane! it wasn't that difficult at all. this just makes me wonder why UMPS don't call it on all the other even more obvious pitchers. this leads me to...

Matty Moss called for IP (tennessee vs alabama)

Matty moss was called by 3b umpire for an IP. Amanda and Adam tried to find what was illegal and thought that Matty's foot detached from the plate. What's interesting was what followed. Amanda says that's easier to fix than a leap or replant. Adam then followed "the leap is something that...

    Pitchers chest guard

DD uses an evo shield but has outgrown it. I want to get her a new one but would like to check for other brand/options. does your DD use a chest guard? if so, which brand?

    How TALL is your pitcher?

DD's only 5' 3' and at times feels intimidated because her fellow pitchers are much taller. But, if this list is any indication: FPN 2017 Preseason TOP 50 NCAA Softball Pitchers Rank Name School Class 1 Delanie Gourley Florida Sr. 2 Kylee Hanson Fla. Atlantic Sr. 3 Aleshia...

    minor chondomalacia

DD's teammate had some knee pain and was diagnosed with minor chondomalacia. is this permanent or reversible ailment?

    Are Showcase tournaments obsolete?

DD just went to a UNC pitching camp and I was able to chat with some of the parents there. They said that most college coaches do not go to showcase tournaments to see new prospects, they go there to see their prospect(s). I kinda sorta agreed as in the past several showcase tournaments DD has...

    pitching ball recommendation

DD's been using the synthetic dream-seam. they were okay, but it seems the seams have worn down after repeated use. pro-leather better feel than synthetic? any other ball suggestions?

Role of the shoulder in arm circle

what is the role of the shoulder when doing the arm circle? is it simply to attach the arm to the body and establish a point of rotation (fulcrum)? my understanding is that pitchers should not use the shoulder to initiate the arm circle. is this accurate?

    National Scouting Report

A few weekends ago, DD pitched in a showcase tournament. There were several scouts around and just recently, we received an email from a scout from the National Scouting Report. Has anyone heard about this organization? Are they legit? The good? The bad? The ugly? TIA

how has your pitching journey been?

with a lot of folks reading and posting in the pitching section, i wondered how has your DD's pitching journey been? for my DD, it started in 2012 unfortunately with HE. we made the transition to IR/BI in 2013. To date, DD has fixed the following: 1. bad drag (side of the cleats) 2. glove...

How fast for a good riseball?

well and good JJS. just curious, how fast is your DD's Riseball? the reason i ask is that my DD's team coach said, ideally, the RB should be at 58 mph or higher. my DD can barely manage 55 so the coach doesn't call that pitch very much. thoughts?
