One more thing, I am not saying that those things in the videos do not happen... I am trying to relay to you how and why they happen. That is the difference.
We have given evidence... but while you see one thing in a video, I see another. And I am trying to say is that there is more than just watching a video to teach hitting. I think I would rather listen to people like Candrea and Tony Gwynn (who have proven success) to teach my child how to hit...
Board Member,
Sorry if I offended you. However, no matter what resources we quote or how high of a level expertise we bring to this discussion, you will always say "look at the videos." Looking at the videos are good... but just one aspect of the game. I have talked to MLB hitting coaches...
I agree hit dr. If I were to build a business and had the option to take advice from either Bill Gates or a carpenter, I think I would choose Gates. Although the carpenter may study alot about "how to build a business," Bill Gates has actually done it and been successful. My opinion.
Good hitting coaches don't teach hips opening... that is why Candrea says to stay square to the plate. The hips do open... but it is not a conscious effort... it is natural. There is a difference bt teaching, doing and watching videos. All are important... but a hitter should FEEL like their...
Load is when the front side goes down into the back side turning into the plate. Launch is when the legs start to uncoil the hips, torso , arms and shoulders.
Board Member,
1.) Are the shoulders turning inward and/or hands loading back in relation to their starting position, AS they make their "positive move forward"?
-Their hands are seperating bc they are moving forward.
2.) Are the hips opening INTO foot plant?
-Can you please explain what you...
CoachB,
I never coaches teams to the Olympics... but I played in the Olympics and I know Candrea very well. He does get to recruit the best players in the nation... but he is great at developing the players. Look at Kristie Fox... at Az she was an All-American and now she is hitting under .200...
Mark H,
Guererro is not loading in that video... he is unloading into the ball. He has already loaded and seperation occurs because your lower half begins to launch your arms and hands to the contact point.
And another thing... Deja Vu... one question... I forgot... you have coached teams to...
A couple of things....
1. I have worked a lot with Candrea and he is one of the most knowledgable about softball hitting out of anyone I know.
2. You cannot create seperation when you load. If your hands go backwards while you are loading... you are done and your bat drags and it is hard to...
Elliott,
so what do you think you make adjustments with??? I can tell you that what Dr Hit said is not "horsepucky." Why do you think all of these great hitters say that they just think about throwing their hands/knob of the bat to the ball? BC they are all full of horsepucky too? I have NEVER...
Mark H,
Ok, here goes...
1.When I said throw the hands at the ball... I did not mean to push your hands (that is what the man was doing in that clip you posted). I mean to throw and get good extension through the pitcher.
2. When I said to push your back heel to the ball, that basically is...
David,
I can tell you that I use to struggle with the same thing. I would KILL balls inside... most of them would go foul and I could not touch the outside pitch. I too was taught to spin my hips at a young age. I would suggest that when you are practicing with her, have her focus on staying...
David May,
Please know that I am not attacking what Epstein teaches, but but looking at the videos of his kids hitting, it looks like he teaches to get the weight back and rotate the hips. When you rotate your hips consciously it makes your weight go away from the ball (backwards) and you then...
I think you can google him or ask Marc Degeneas (sp) about him (I believe he worked with him with the Canadian National Team). I know he owns a hitting academy in Illinois also.
