As a coach, there is only one thing you can guarantee, that's that you'll put the best players on the field that earn their positions week in and week out. No one has a set position, they earn it week to week in practice, tournament to tournament.
What a Player "likes" to play may not be what...
One thing that I believe to be extremely important is to identify what your DD wants before selecting a team, not what you want as a parent. Once identified, guide her toward reaching her goals.
Questions need to be asked at/around 14 so goals can be set , in place, and working toward them by...
Time & Money
Great suggestions.
A couple things we used to do, as we were in the same money boat, was to have someone bring a DVD player or portable DVD Player and watch "inspiriational movies" as a team. Generally, the girls brought movies like "A League Of Their Own" etc.. Of course, this...
Pitchin,
I agree with Amy on all points, and what a coach to take it out on a child. The league definitely needs to know about this person, so he doesn't coach again or not in the head coach capacity.
Having been a head coach and been in that scenario, I usually tell my parents in the...
Since the league is amending the ASA rule, it seems they can amend again for this scenario.
It's simple, you bypass the injured player's position in the lineup without penalty, especially when you have enough players to continue.
No Cheering, wouldn't think of it. Matter of fact, I encourage it. Yes, it can be a little crazy at times, but I see a difference in focus and performance when they don't.
Has anyone seen that email that's been floating around that depicts the female brain in comparison to the male brain...
Amen !!
My wife has been on a break for the past 6yrs for the same reasons !! The girls we coached together thought it awesome to have a female on the field to look up to. Sad that the parents didn't feel the same way and drove a female role model away from the game. I miss her as well, I...
If she's in the Southeast (Florida and Georgia), she can go to
Pitch2Fast - Florida Boys Baseball Girls Fastpitch Softball Forums. Teams post for recruiting of players and they list tryout information.
Glen,
Yes, unfortunately. My DD tore hers at the end of 2006. She's still not 100% but getting there. Long process to recovery.
We've had some posts on this in the Softball Discussions thread under Conditioning Exercises to Prevent Knee Injuries.
Allie,
Your situation strikes home with me as something very similar happened to me as a young adult. I was a football player. I stood at a gigantic 5'9" and a whopping 175lbs, not the build of the perfect football player. My Rec Football coaches, my Dad, My High School Coaches, said I would...
Psychology
Fivepots,
Ah, 11's and 12's, I loved to coach that age, they can be such sponges.
Sounds as if she learned a lesson, hopefully the lesson was do what you do best, with the guidance of her coaching staff, and to trust her team mates to make the plays.
I don't claim to be the best...
Ang,
Sounds good. The company we deal with for our local league is great. It's a husband and wife team. She's the artistic one and he's the labor !! So, if you need a logo designed she's the one.
Anyway, good luck.

Ang,
Do you have a local screen printer? If not, I can put you in touch with a great one here locally. He uses Augusta and Teamwork solely.
Thanks,

Fastpitch,
You must work for Publix Supermarkets. Our VP has the same commandments. They most definitely apply to whatever team you're building. Thanks for the great post.

Jody
PDJ, Thanks for your reply.
That's great to hear about Jody. He's living in my town and doing a lot of pitching and hitting lessons for our local league. A lot of pitchers out of our 21 teams go to him. He's done a lot in raising the level of play for us. We're glad to have him.
Amy, thanks for your response and I'll incorporate your suggestions.
Physical Therapy went well until Insurance ran out. I thought it unbelievable that they set a limit for a young athlete. Pleaded and Pleaded, but that's another story.
They had her doing lunges, squats, and jumping...
WOW.
I would suggest what fivepotsogold said in their post to help you out right now.
I would also go to your league's board of directors and petition to set a new by-law limiting the amount of participants on each team to a max of 11 or 12. Once you exceed 12, it's not fair for anyone. In...
