    Weighted Balls

Knee drill and K drill are not full motion throws, at least not the way she does them. So Lozza, do you believe that long toss is not appopriate at all for a 10yr old or should we be doing it from shorter distances? Again, that could be the reason for the increase in velocity. She explodes...

    Weighted Balls

Knowing I'm about to get flamed, I'll share my daughter's weighted ball experience. My DD is an 01 and is a control pitcher. She can hit her target 80% of the time and has good command of peel drop, change, drop curve and is learning a curve. Her fastball topped at 43 this evening using my...

Changing from 11 in to 12 in... Drills, advice??

I am substituting a 12" ball about 20% of the time to my 01 DD while we are getting her throws in. I just keep one on the ground by me and rotate it in and call the same pitches regardless of which ball. We won't be going to 12U until next Fall but she is already getting used to it. With her...

    2 or 4 seam fastball?

For my daughter, (9yrs old, 35 ft with 11 inch ball), her 4 seam has a bit of drop and a bit of curve (tails outside to a RH batter) and I have her throw it on the corner or a +1 more commonly. Her 2 seam tends to run into a RH batter when thrown on the inside corner when she is pitching well...

Soft Toss Machines......Do they help. And which ones are the best? THX.

Thanks for the info on the PopToss. Looks interesting and given the price, I could see a drill having 2-3 set up with different release times aiming at different areas of the strike zone. They will probably do well with that device. I think the Easton or Jugs soft toss might be in my future...

Soft Toss Machines......Do they help. And which ones are the best? THX.

I can do it fairly accurately but would rather watch the girls mechanics and few of my other parents are any good at it. Axiom, Easton, Jugs, ATEC, Mauer quickswing, Wheeler Dealer, Backyard Batter, Tru-Toss and many many others. The Easton has caught my eye and uses most any type ball and is...

    Peel Drop where to start

Boy, I almost hesitate to interject (nonpro and not even very smart at that) but here is what I did with my 8yr old to help the 12-6 spin: She was about 10-4 probably and I really beleive that her problem was at the 12 position (as BH suggests). I put a red dot the size of a dime on some...

    Bat advice

Easton's line of lower end bats (Cyclone, Typhoon, etc) are hard to beat and less than $50. Note that they have only been changing the color of these bats in the last few years so you should be able to quickly spot the older, cheaper ones. Big sweet spot, long-lasting, solid feel and lots of...

    Mineral Oil=Glove Conditioner

Lanolin, lanolin, lanolin! I use the Nokona brand in a squeeze tube. It tends to soak in and disappear overnight yet keeps the leather really soft. When I break in a glove, I like to play catch with it (catching from a pitching machine can get you lots of hard throws) then squeeze the...

    Louisville Slugger Blue Flame?

Blue Flame Hey Ken, It's not a bad little machine with both pros and cons. On the upside, it you can dial it in to about an 8 inch square range so that it throws mostly strikes but mixes in a few that are a bit off. I think this is a good thing in that it does not groove every pitch, your...
