Baseball vs. Softball Swings - Any differences?

I like to think that fp hitters have a more compact swing. Using more core and lower body. In bb the big stride and not just driving the ball but swinging for the fence. My parents and I agree that if just one team went for base hits instead of the fence that team would excede the other teams...

What do you think of lefty catchers?

I see no problem with a lefty catcher. Being a catcher myself, there were times that I wish that I was left handed.

    Practice versus game batting

Not having any of my children playing fastpitch or baseball. I will do anything to help the team I coach suceed. I don't mean win every game but improve as individuals and as a team. One of the things I tell my girls when they are in the box is to breath, don't choke the bat, and have fun. Some...

Should you teach young catchers to throw from the knees?

I don't think at an early age that you would want to do that. I would think that you want to stick with the fundamentals, that would be for a more advanced, stronger players. High school and collage players.

    Elbows

If you watch the girls while they bat usually the first thing they do is drop their elbows when they swing. Elbows down also helps when they hit against faster pitchers.

    run rule

I coach at the Junior High level. When you meet at the plate with the umpire with the other coach you can ask for a 3 out or 5 run per inning rule. I think it helps keep the girls spirits up and keeps the game moving. That is my opion but some coaches dont think so.

Welcome to the Speed & Power Forum

I have had a few problems with the team work thing. We ran 2 laps holding hands. I was looking for the best and fastest way for the girls to do this. The only rule was that they held hands. During the first lap they tried to run single file and soon found that if you have one end run around the...

Welcome to the Speed & Power Forum

I was doing a hopping drill with the girls, ages 13-15, and after about 45 minutes we started a pairs hop scotch game. They did the drills and had some fun. We were hopping on one foot one way and the other on the back or on both. We were photographed for the local paper. Some other coaches in...
