I figured it was a fast pitch game, but if they are consistently calling balls above her head as strikes; maybe no one told the Umpires ... LOL ... It is not inconceivable to think that a pitch with any arc and a girl up in the box, while using the front knee and back shoulder as the...
It much be a reginal thing ... Here in Central VA there is not much more than Co-Ed slow pitch for women ... A few years ago I remember a fast pitch league near Bristol Tenn., not sure if that is still is going on ... Any way, in Southern Maine where my DD's live there are Womens Slow Pitch and...
Get as large a piece of cardboard as you can find (old refrigerator or washer / dryer box *with staples removed) ... Break it down so it's just one large flat piece and lay on the grass somewhere ... Then take an old top sheet off of a bed and lay it flat on top of the cardboard ... 1.) Step...
We did the 23U & Womens Division for 3 years I think, maybe 4 ... The competition that was out there was very good ... Mostly college athletes looking to keep sharp over the summer, some who didn't play in college, gals that had already graduated and some young mothers sprinkled in ... One...
I had a JV team years back that had 3 solid pitchers and they each played other positions ... I set up a rotation and everyone, including parents were happy ... Alternatively; you could let everyone pitch until they go through the line up once (unless they're throwing a no - no ) ... That would...
Is THIS the only gripe you have with the coach ? You have gotten and will get differing opinions about this call ... BUT if you want to approach the coach about this and your DD stays in softball for very long you're gonna need to step up your pre game meds .... Just sayin' ...
Read back ... Dabears17 posted the rule which is still in effect.
And yes, the team that I was talking about is / was a perennial powerhouse and their speakers were above and pointed into the visitors dugout. My suggestion is that if you want to stop it, have a copy of the rule handy and speak up.
Few years back, so I'm going by my memory which is less than perfect ... BUT, I believe it was something like "Walk up music is prohibited and music is only to be broadcast during dead ball periods in between innings"
The rule I'm talking about was not a NFHS rule, but a VHSL rule ... I don't know of anything in U-trip, ASA, NSA or any other rule set that would specifically disallow walk up music ... However, if it delayed the game I would be looking for a strike on the batter.
That was not the Umpires experience either when I informed him that walk up music was not allowed in VHSL ... He initially resisted but then asked them to shut it down for the game and he would get clarification ... Which he did and we later discussed that he had no idea ... My AD confirmed it...
In Virginia (VHSL) high school softball (NFHS), there is no walk up music and no music allowed at all except during the half inning or inning ... I like the rule ... At one school we competed against they had two loud speakers, both facing above the visitors dugout and would blast their walk up...
About 10 years ago I received a phone call from what was then a new start-up softball association (forget their name) in NC that was holding a tournament ... They were seriously short on umpires and were reaching out ... I asked them which rule set they would be using ... The answer was "just...
Your video isn't available to watch ... But, if the batters foot is touching the ground and completely out of the box (or she is stepping on the plate) and she hits the ball fair or foul she is out. Ball is dead, runners return.
A few years back in a HS game ... The first batter came out and stood there making it completely obvious the she was scratching and kicking out the front line of her batters box ... I requested time from the plate Umpire who was standing there watching it happen and asked to speak to him ... (In...
Personally, I found the best thing I ever did to help me as a coach was to take as many Umpire Clinics as I could and become an Umpire ... To clarify, I did not quit coaching, I umpired in my down time from coaching.
The player should have been ejected ... IF it was a called play, the coach should have been ejected, fired and further more not allowed to coach youth sports ever again, period.
