    [emoji15]Extending College Eligibility Again

I think it will work out fine for the younger girls as I don't think MOST of the older girls will stick around an extra year or 2. I think my daughters college has one "Super Senior" out of last years graduation class. My guess would be if they add another year of eligibility they might end up...

    First showcase

There is a lot of good information here but don't freak out with thinking that all of it is 100% accurate, 100% of the time. You need to do what is right for you and your kid and understand that there will be times it doesn't mesh with somebodies unwritten rule. The two things that I tried to...

How many TB teams has/did your DD play for?

My daughter played for a bunch... 10U and 1st year 12U were rec ball 12U old and 14U young were one team Joined team at 14U old and left after fall and prior to spring because abusive coach. 14U old and 16U young were same team Joined team at 16U old and left in the fall because of injury. That...

    College Softball Preparedness

This is a great post... thanks! We are experiencing these things now as our daughter is a Freshman in college. Currently our daughter feels "stuck" playing softball as the rest of the world is moving around her. With all the independence that comes with being an adult, she's having difficulty...

    Speed. How fast is fast?

LOL Years and years ago the player I referenced as having DI speed, was converted to a slapper and she never mastered the skill set. She just hits and bunts from the left side now. Her bat isn't horrible but IMO it isn't DI level. Her swing is long which leads to decent power numbers but her BA...

    Speed. How fast is fast?

My daughter is fast but not blazing fast. The thing is she is way faster running the bases than other girls because of technique, decisiveness and aggressiveness. She rarely makes a base running error and her game speed looks faster than girls that would blow her away in a straight away sprint...

    Have a little perspective...

I have kept pretty good records over the years on my daughters softball career. Not just the normal stats but a few other things that might help parents that our moving down a similar path. For a little backdrop, my daughter is a Freshman in college, playing ball at a private NAIA school. I'll...

    Another "fun" tournament-Wildness ensued!

That usually doesn't happen at 18U... behavior like that is reserved for 10U-14U parents. Those parents still believe their little Susie is going to have a full ride at her choice of DI schools and probably play on the Olympic Team.

Do I make the choice for my player?

This is almost an identical situation for my daughter. (y) I would never make this decision for my daughter. She needed to make the decisions about what team to play for... heck that remained true all the way through college recruitment and commitment. I would council her and provide scenarios...

At what point do you, or you DD decide that she's not going to make it as a pitcher?

My daughter threw from 10U all the way through 16U travel ball. At times she was the number one pitcher on her team, at other time she was barely considered a viable pitcher and was used as a position player. We focused on becoming a great all around softball player and not just a great pitcher...

    Travel Ball costs

A roster of 13-15 girls makes it hard to keep player/parents happy with playing time. I shoot for a min of 11 and max of 13 players. It really gets more difficult with less than or more than those numbers IMO.

    Travel Ball costs

$300 is bargain basement for any level travel ball. I am as frugal as anyone and ran a tournament team on $400/player x 12 players. We played in 6 local tournaments and a league which combined ran almost $2500. We had about $200/player into 2 sets of complete, decent quality uniforms... we...

    Tell me about college camps

I think that you are getting good advice. There are two types of camps, fundraising camps to support the program and actual recruiting camps. The first type is the generic college camp $400/player, come join 90 other youth players for a day or two and practice/play. The actual recruiting camps...

    2-Strike Hitting

IMO all swings should be the same swing mechanics. Changing your swing mechanics to try and "put the ball in play" with 2 strikes is silly. With that being said, I am all about getting the ball in the field of play and not just about hitting the ball over a fence. I'll always choose the team...

Is it safe to be having national tournaments right now?

Well, my DD and our family have been lucky in a lot of ways because she is a recruited '20. We had the option to play summer ball to keep her game going but didn't NEED to for recruiting or other reasons. We chose to not participate in team activities or play in scrimmages and/or tournaments...

    Who is in whos camp?

I'm in the "hitting is way over-cooked" camp. K.I.S.S. o_O More importantly I know what "cues" work for MY daughter to bring back her swing when she begins to struggle. I know those same cues wouldn't work for other players, just like their cues would destroy my kids swing.

    Xeno or LXT....

My daughter is Xeno all the way. LXT felt like a "wet noodle" to her and she HATED, HATED, did I say HATED the Ghost. She has always preferred heavier swinging bats and the Xeno in a drop 8 is what she has swung for the past 4 years. With that being said, she is VERY attached to her softball...

    College playing opportunities...

What a ride the past few months have been. We have learned so much about the recruiting process. This forum and this thread has assisted us greatly navigating through the rough recruiting waters. We learned how coaches can really vary on how they deal with recruiting. For the most part it has...

Taking DD to college campuses just so they could look around?

My daughter is a senior and we have probably walked 20-25 campuses over the past few years. Most of these "visits" have been us just showing up and poking around the campus. It was an eye opening experience for my daughter, what she initially believed she wanted in a school wasn't what she...

Does your Daughter have a Job?

Although, I understand the merits of having a job (heck I worked 2 jobs through most of HS) my daughter that is a senior in HS has focused on school and softball. Our message has been that school is her work and softball is what she does. That plan has worked well for us but it might not be for...
