I was a parent coach from 8U to 12U and transitioned to a non-parent coach at 14U and I transitioned to org president at the time. I was a big advocate for professional (paid) non-parent coaches at that age (14+) and tried introducing as AC's at younger ages as well.
I felt the strongest...
Has anyone made use of Sporfie or similar tools that enable one to record an event (specifically a swing or defensive play) after it happens? I tinkered with Sporfie last spring and really like the concept (many missed events when trying to hit 'record' before it happens). My factory iPhone 8...
Whatever level she plays at, maybe consider focusing on one position to give her a chance to get comfortable with its responsibilities, rather than moving her around to different positions. That could help with her getting 'lost'.
We have some older equipment we'd like to give away to reduce our storage requirements. Bats, catching equipment, non-anchored bases, helmets with no grills. We're in proximity to an urban area but I don't want to presume or offend by offering stuff up to an organization. Any thoughts on the...
I got some grief from the board in asking for it, as they felt rates were high, but I have a couple of professional coaches at 12U and 14U at around 2400$ annual for a Class B/C program in New England. Job Description:
Conduct 2-3 tryouts, formulate teams, notify and manage parents
Plan...
Texas Wesleyan University baseball coach Mike Jeffcoat tells recruit no Colorado players because of failed drug tests
If a coach makes a decision to not recruit from a region, that's his/her business, but the email response here is pretty over the top.
I would buy into what he was saying more if he cited some evidence that coaches/recruiters are going to competitive tournaments more than showcases, or what he thought players were focusing on instead of fundamentals, skills-wise.
It's been awhile since I've done higher math, but:
9 batters x 3 pitches per batter = 27 (minimum)
36 pitches thrown - 27 (minimum) = 9 over the minimum.
The Newton Panther softball team is looking for part-time professional coaches starting in Sept 2017. Age groups are 12u and 10u. If interested, please contact Matt at newton.ma.panthers@gmail.com or call 617.584.7195.
DD played up at 14U for a bracket game after 14U catcher was injured Sat. (DD just turned 13). Caught the entire game, 2 caught stealing (1 successful steal, unofficially, by my count), couple of passed balls (not bad for not having caught a drop or curve before). Reached twice on a BB and...
You say you were the visitor - I would think the home team would get their last AB in the bottom half, irregardless of clock. Maybe I misunderstand what you are describing.
Usually it's the home team that has these kind of clock dilemmas. Do you slow roll your ABs to run clock for instance by...
The 3-0 pitch was in the same spot and the catcher did the same thing (I wouldn't call it framing, not by my definition) moving the glove up, and got the call. Playing with fire going to the well twice in that situation, IMO. I didn't see from the TV view how far back she was, very interesting.
Some of the other coaches on my team were wondering how UMass-Lowell recruited kids. I kind of like the area, myself though. We were at the Dracut facility instead of McPherson, which is really nice.
During a scrimmage in Lowell Sunday, we had a batted ball hit a base runner advancing to 3rd. The umpire ruled her safe as the SS had been playing in, made a play on the ball in front of the runner before contact. From this thread, it seems like he got it right, as no other fielder was trying...
I have a player with some borderline OCD going on. She is always cleaning off the dirt off bases, home plate, pitching rubber. Some umpires have noticed and have helped her out with the brush.
When I was at 8U, I planned every inning, position wise in a spreadsheet, for the proper balance of PT, print it out. If the plan fell apart during the game (sit due to heat, late, etc.) I would leave room to mark up the grid on the fly. I wouldn't change during an inning. Copy tabs for each...
I think there should be a more fun drills at that age. I ask for one hour of work, and then we clown around the last 30 minutes, hopefully with something that develops skills without them realizing. Ultimate Softball (like U. Frisbee, with a helmet on a bucket at two ends of the field...
