    Pitching question

(ah...the good old day. Going back in a time machine to before there were high speed videos...I always did look dashing in aviator glasses and a mullet.) Oh well...back to pitching. In fact, there is a "one size fits all". There is a correct way to pitch. And, what you are describing ain't it...

    When Does Winning Become Important?

Coogan--you're correct, I should have said never reached that level of competitiveness- in the grand scheme of life maybe it isn't important, but I thought we were talking about softball and just being assertive on the field isn't going to take you to the Olympics....my point was just that I...

    When Does Winning Become Important?

Rocket: you were already competitive, that friend stoked the fire in you... Agreed that a good coach draws that out of their players by finding what motivates them and using that to draw it out! -------------------------------------------------Windmillpitchers.com is a site for pitching...

    When Does Winning Become Important?

You can't teach someone to be competitive, to have that killer instinct, they either have it or don't....I was seriously competitive and aggressive at 7 years old, I had friends who never achieved that.... Windmillpitchers.com is a site for pitching coaches to advertise and pitchers to find...

How do you know a good PC

Agreed that results are paramount, but you might ask some specific questions...1)what's your coaching philosophy. 2) how would you increase leg drive. 3)how do you motivate your pitchers. 4) how many different pitches are necessary for a pitcher to have? So these are generic questions, you...

    Pitching Mechanics- Practice vs Game

So, yea I completely agree with the helpful comments on here, i.e. Hillhouse. As a former pitcher, the mental game is 90%. You practice form and mechanics over and over and over in practice, but the mental is what's needed for games. My advice would be to know what motivates your daughter...I...

    How much is too much?

As a former pitcher and athletic trainer I think it is insane that there still isn't a pitch count for fastpitch softball pitchers. These girls/women are tough and athletes, they aren't going to pull themselves from a game b/c they're tired. Honestly, most of the coaches out there will run a...

    9YOA pitcher--suggestions?

Another idea for walkthroughs is to have her start in center field and take a stride and "pitch" into her glove, this should be completely smooth, every stride is a pitch into the glove, this helps to break the habit of the forcing it as the windmill motion should be the same throughout, she...

    Doug Finch Clinic

I personally think that one day clinics are a waste of time...pitching is so individual...yes the mechanics to prevent injury are the same as determined by body mechanics, but a 6'1" jennie finch can/will pitch differently than a 5'1" 100 lb girl...you go to these clinics and they teach you one...

    Pitching question

I think hips closing is essential, though they don't close completely (as in facing the pitcher), but this adds to the speed of the pitch. Not all speed and power comes from the arm and IR, much more comes from the drive in the legs and the hips working in conjunction with the core to "close"...
