    Daughter wanting to change teams

My daughter started travel ball at 10 playing on a first year 12U team. The important part is to know your kid and their wants and ability. Be honest. I was fortunate that my daughter thrived playing with girls that were all a little older. At the end of her second year of 14u ( technically...

Catcher calling her own game in 12U

My daughter started catching at 9. After a year and a clinic with the Jay weaver my eyes were opened to the philosophy that if you instill these types of play at a young age i.e. calling g pitches or blocking, they won't be able to necessarily do it at that age but the seed will have been plated...

    Hitting Really Fast Pitchers

Teach them about timing. When facing faster pitchers changing your swing to match speed will hurt mechanics. Turn up the machine and put on some grooving tunes. Teach them to load and swing with the beat. Faster beat faster timing slower beat slower timing.. If you face a pitcher that is a glove...

    The "Hissy-Quit"

I sit very hesitant on commenting. I will try not to ramble. Sorry in advance! I have been on both sides of the fence as a coach and a parent for the last ten and I definately do not know it all. At the end of the day the parent is 100% responsible and the most important part is you as the...

    Did I do right?

I know this is late, I don't get around here much lately. The fact that this young lady has enough passion and thought to question weather she was right or wrong or even what she should have done different tells me enough about her to know that this is a young lady with class and sportsmanship...

Catchers Code of Conduct - DFP Version

Great thread Eric! I know it's a bit late but I say they need to not only pack/haul their gear, they need to clean, inspect and care for there gear. They are warrors who voluntarily take a beating and need to know they have their armor and implements in good clean working order. Blow it off...

    NECC not worth the investment....

Greenmonster, I agree 100%. The kids who put in the effort, are the ones who excel. It's amazing what these kids are capable of when they want it.

    Necc clinic in socal

Heck yeah! The last one really helped her progress. She improves everyday. Definitely needs a little tuning. Hearing things from someone other than dad always helps. Especially with this one. She's too hard on herself!

    Necc clinic in socal

Just wanted to see if any local dfp folks were planning on attending Necc traveling camp in Murrieta, CA. Just signed my dd up for it. This will be our second time. Awesome camp, well worth the trip and the money. Jay and the guys really do a great job and we can't wait to see them again.

DD got beat up last night

When my dd started to catch we had similar problems. After observing her frustration, we tried a drill of the necc web site. Starting from 10' I would pitch to her at slow speed and gradually ramp up the velocity. Then I would add 5 feet and do the same with the speed/velocity and start to move...

    When to get gear

I know this reply is a little late but here are my opinions on getting you DD her own gear. The sooner, the better. My experience with catchers is that if a girl shows interest, harvest it right a way, but don't push. A kid having interest in that position is priceless. Get them gear as soon as...

2014-2015 NECC Road Trip Catching Camp Schedule is Complete! Find out where we'll be!

After reading guero_gordo reply I started thinking about how much my my daughter had retained. It will definitely very from kid to kid. However, this was one of those mad scramble softball days that a parent just wants to get over! 9 a.m. bull pin with our pitcher, "whoa check it out" she is...
