They have 11 fields with turf on them at Berliner Park in Columbus (Ohio). Have had our share of games on them...
If they get wet, definitely go with some sort of turf to regular cleat. If dry, 'sneaker cleats' (tennis shoes) is fine!
When they do get wet, sliding turns interesting, as some...
Now that school is hitting summer months, how many colleges and coaches keep themselves available for unofficial visits by prospective athletes?
DD is sophomore and started with a few unofficial visits this winter, but interested in taking as many as possible!
As with most travel parents, I...
Mid-major is basic term for a school not in the 'Elite' conferences...in softball, your basically speaking Pac-10, SEC, Big12, ACC, Big10...some schools if consistently win against the top schools year in / year out can lose that moniker also.
School size doesn't matter in this reference, but...
Fair? Maybe not, but timewise if that is all the time and facilities coach has to work with they have to choose and move on.
There is a lot of evaluation some coaches can make off of throwing mechanics and some basic swing mechanics. Whether that coach is that good of an evaluator is TBD...
I didn't say this publicly, but sure the hell she was embarrassed...
'Honey, you better grab some girly supplies, find some dirt to rub on a spot on your pants, and get to the restroom...your bleeding through.' *yuck*
Those early days of DD having her monthly she didn't deal with it properly...
Yeah, seen the price on old and also remember people asking, but never seen one in action (did see one up at Columbus OH but never got to see the girl swing it as we were moving fields).
Just curious...not selling because its an "unknown" or because the bat stinks?
Figured Id see a few on...
Good story...
I'm glad to hear that your team had a group of parents that were able to see a 'teaching opportunity', whereas many parents would have ignored or belittled "Sunny"...
If I can get a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt, they won't have an issue giving me a ticket for not making my DD wear safety equipment while playing a sport!
Past experience with them was NOT good. (Pigeon Forge TN)
Most Ive heard about them since has not been good either...
Had a 16u team dropped into the 14u field (they had to close out a 16u flight due to not enough teams) - - without contacting the 14u teams involved or getting their OK. The...
Unless your team is a top tier team looking to play ONLY Elite level teams, this is a very good option.
1) You get bells and whistles of a World Series...team Parade (opening Ceremonies), skill competitions, pin trading...(cool for the younger teams)
2) You get a fair amount of ball in, but...
For players, I look at "Stats" similarly to handing out a business card: It lets them know who you are and what you do. Now it's time to give them the rest of the information necessary if you want to establish a relationship. (do business, etc).
I believe stats is 'one' piece of the puzzle when...
Agree for most part with waht everyone has said, how I'd piece it together:
1) Discuss with girls and families what their 'dreams and goals' are...if majority of the answers don't include college ball, move on.
2) If dreams or goals include college, then weigh what schools would attend. Are...
Yes, Berliner in Columbus (Ohio) charges $5 a car per day. $$ is supposed to support park upkeep of its 32 fields...FYI, they have installed field 'turf' for now 11 of the 32 diamonds (reduces rainouts).
I'm OK with smaller gate fees as long as it goes towards something usefull, ie park...
