Is your dd high school team state champion caliber?
Having a daughter that plays 18u gold in the summer and on the JV team during school ball - they better be.
I asked this question of two D1 Ohio college head coaches this winter - "From an evaluation perspective of a potential D1 catching recruit, how important is it that they can demonstrate calling their own game" - there response "Not at all". In both cases, their pitching coaches call the game.
Because my players are approaching the age where statistics are going to be important for college recruiting purposes, just this year we made the decision to implement a more rigorous and consistent scoring process. The book is kept in the dugout by one of two coaches. Questionable rulings are...
Mudbug, with a runner on 1st and 3rd and less than two outs - is it your belief that the typical DI or DII college team allows the runner on first to advance to second without regard? Is it also your belief that when a runner gets to third (and less than two outs) those same teams load the...
Jim, you are absolutely right. We played an indoor tourney a week or so ago and I came to the exact same conclusion. If you are not playing to hold the run at third on a hit ball, and you will take an out and give up the run. Why give the other team the opportunity to put two runners into...
What is the theory behind playing the 2B next to the pitcher? Why not play your 1B up like I am assuming you would in a SAC bunt situation. If a slapper hits the ball to a baseline depth 2B, the assumption has to be the 1B can cover. 1B should/can't be that immobile.
It just seems to me like...
I agree with SBFamily (my fellow Ohioian and OFCer), my 14u team plays slappers with a straight up defense, corners tight - middle infield baseline depth. Since the slappers best advantage is speed and hitting the ball as far from 1st base as possible, we generally try and bust her with pitches...
Great to hear Ken. There will be mistakes and you may even lose a game because they make a wrong choice, but your team and your players will be much better softball players because of your approach.
I agree with both Ken and Coach, if you built your team through the tryout selection process, then chances are you had a pretty good idea of what you were looking for and how your mix of players would layout on the team. If you are playing a competitive travel schedule at 13u, I don't think you...
Starting with 8u Select, I have always taught "think lead runner first, if not get the easy out". IMHO it is the only way to teach your infield the flow of base coverages.
On another forum in Ohio, I asked a question - at the showcase travel or collegiate level where should the pitcher throw...
