Marriad, I’m glad to know there are umpires who think about it and make the right call. It can’t just be black and white, if it passes a fielder no where near the ball that shouldn’t matter. I’m sure that wasn’t the intention when they wrote the rule
My last post, I promise. Like Marriad said there will never be an out in fastpitch for a batter being hit by batted ball. Every third baseman and first baseman I’ve seen play even or in front of the bag. Is that right?
Thanks Marriad. I know the call was wrong. There was no fielder interference. Not everything is black and white and requires some sort of umpire judgement. You’re right, the umpire didn’t know the rule correctly.

You sound like a complete idiot. That’s the wrong call. Maybe it’s more of a judgement call than I thought. But I have never seen a runner not called out after being directly hit with a batted ball. Not in baseball, not in slo pitch softball and not in teenage fast pitch.
