"Bully" coach or are we over reacting.

Berating any girl fastpitch player in front of their team, family, and fans is... IMO... a BIG RED FLASHING... "Warning Sign" of someone who should NOT be coaching girls fastpitch softball. To help ALL the players/parents/fans... I would suggest filming a video of this behavior and sharing this...

    Upper Back Soreness

@BruinCarl - As an experienced youth pitching coach I would love to help you and your daughter resolve her pain issues (at no cost)... Unfortunately, I have had many new students... who have started private lessons from me... and they had sore backs/necks/shoulders :-( Most of these pain...

    Total Newb

@clemenslee1 That is awesome to hear that your daughter wants to become a pitcher. Both my daughter wanted to pitch (8/10) and I knew nothing about the sport or pitching. So... it was a long road... a lot of hard work... and a roller coaster of emotions... but we made some wonderful...

how to help DD be the leader the team needs.

Awesome comments on youth leadership... As many of you know, team leaders don't just use their words to encourage or show congratulations... they give high fives, a pat on the shoulder, hugs, glove slaps, smiles, thumbs up... Those little gestures can mean soo much more than words. One of...

Is this the end? or a new beginning?

Sorry to hear about your DD's shoulder injury... My daughter (pitcher/1B) just hung up her college cleats this spring due to chronic pain in her elbow. We tried everything to help her elbow... w/o success 😟 Trying to play in pain for the past 2 years... and only playing 5 inning in...

Guess we're taking a "break" from softball

@BLINDSIDE ... sorry to hear about your daughter's injury... Any kind of injury is tough... that is a long time to be out... When my daughter was injured (several times) she wanted to go and cheer for her team... and be in the dugout! So we all traveled to every game with her - even the long...

Help - Daughter is Turning Into Chuck Knoblauch

Here is another way to help your players "get out of their own way" 1) Before every pitch... no matter if they are offence or defense... they "see themselves having success doing what they are trained to do" 2) Then... right as the wind-up starts... have your player start "counting"...

    Flip change speed

@Hillhouse - Thanks for sharing Bill. Would you agree... that once the pitcher "takes out the IR and the whip from the arm/hand/fingers"... by releasing the ball with the thumb "inside" (next to the hip)... it will lose speed and it will also look the same as all the other pitchers because...

    Flip change speed

Pitchers can have more than one type of change-up (off-speed). The goals are to keep the batters off-balance, thinking (get in their heads), hit your pitch POORLY and have the same pitching wind-up and "motion/speed" for EVERY SINGLE PITCH. (ie. Sell The Pitch) With my PI experience, the best...

Which radar system for softball pitching in the back yard?

@santafe As noted by @grcsftball noted, the "Pocket Radar Ball Coach" in a great speed radar... $299 USD and the "Pocket Radar Smart Coach" in a great speed radar... $399 USD. Both units take 3 x AAA batteries. The upgrade to the Smart Coach allows you to use an APP on your phone to read...

    Arm circle question.

@djcarter1966 Make sure her arm is relaxed and just throw... "long-n-loose"... the bend (the lag-flex) should happen naturally. Also, have her also "pull-down with her lat muscles" during her arm-circle @ around 1 Once she gets the timing down... this will help to increase whip/speed...

    Arm circle question.

@BillyD ... thanks for reaching out. IMO... as an experienced Minnesota PI... when you tell a player to bend her elbow... she will "bend her elbow" This is NOT something you teach... it should only be a "video reference point" to show her "relaxed arm" during the arm circle... NOTE: All...

    Not Pushing at 10U.

My 2 DDs started when they were 8/10 (now 20-22) and I have coached/instructed 100's of other youth players... So I have learned that you must simply ask her to "TRY IT"... or have another coach/parent/player ask her... Your DD just needs some direction and a little encouragement... (i.e...

    Illegal pitching-no call??

Yes... it is difficult to explain without a detailed video... However, @4KidsDad ... I don't appreciate your last comment... Unfortunately, I had to have spinal fusion surgery and I am unable to pitch baseball anymore... In addition, before my surgery... I was never able to learn how to...
