How can I get a player to stop lunging at the pitch before she swings? When we work on the tee or soft toss, she's fine. Once she sees that pitch come towards her, she lunges at it, gets her weight forward, moves her head, and just plain misses.
She's got a super aggressive personality...
Thanks for the validation
I'm glad to finally find people saying a baseball and softball swing are the same. I had heard the old "shorter" softball swing stories, but when I watch college ball, I couldn't see it! I thought I was missing something.
IMO - Hitting during practices is not an efficient use of time. Like others said, it's time intensive, and only one girl is working on it at a time. If that girl is getting enough swings to make the practice worth it, added to the time it takes to field/retrieve balls, multiplied by the number...
Thanks for the help.
I goofed on my assumption about the dead ball. I watched a game yesterday and noticed the ump just called "No pitch" and then called the runner out.
As for scorebook notation, I'm just going to use LBE w/base number. It's for my own use, and to me it makes the most...
How do you denote in the scorebook when a runner is called out for leaving the base too early? Is there a special symbol for that?
Thanks in advance.
I'm reposting this. I inadvertently posted this in the pitching forum. Someone there had suggested DBO for Dead Ball Out and then make a note...
Wow, the answers are all over on this! Well, next time it happens, I'll probably challenge it with the umpire, knowing that he can rule on this any way he wants.
Our ump was a well seasoned veteran, and he made the ruling. That's why I looked for a resource like this board. I needed to find out how common or uncommon this is.
Thanks for the insight everyone. I did think it a little odd where he was, because I could see his signs from the first base coaches box. I didn't try and figure them out, because again at our level, the batters are still just trying to react, as opposed to think along with the pitcher. It...
I'm sorry, but I forgot one thing. The ump also said if a ball in play hit the coach or bucket, it would be two bases. So, I'm assuming he meant a wild pitch or passed ball or throwing error with runners on... essentially the same as throwing the ball out of play. So it sounds to me like it's...
Amanda - He was on the field, in foul ground, against the fence that runs between backstop and dugout.
ASA ump - What do the rules say about it? Is it at the discretion of the umpire? Does the opposing coach have a say? He asked the umpire, who allowed it, so I figured I couldn't argue the...
