Y'all have been great with the suggestions. Very happy I found this board. My plan in the draft was to go after fielders....assuming I could teach them how to throw, and hit, but catching is much harder. After that I went for Catchers since they usually have the best arm strength. Strength...
So in baseball, when the kids are in the field and the ball is about to be pitched the coach yells to all the children "baseball ready"....meaning get into your athletic positions to field the ball. Is it just "softball ready" in softball, or is there a different phrase?
of course! Should have thought of that, LOL!
My league rules are:
1. No more than 4 runs an inning
2. No dropped third strike
3. No infield fly rule
4. 10 play, 10 bat
Do they realize they only gave me 10 kids??????? This should be interesting. I can't wait to tell the parents, "The good...
Please elaborate on the bolded above.
Are you suggesting I move 1B to 3B, SS to 2B, or are you saying rotate all 10 spots? (and why are there 10...I'm at a loss why 9 spots won't suffice)
I hear what you are saying, and would agree if I were talking about travel ball. I'm not. I've got ten 9/10 year olds....some of which are 60 pounds sopping wet. They may be spry and agile but if they can't get the ball over to first due to their arm strength, they can't play SS, no matter...
We will have to agree to disagree on that one.
I have seen HUGE, absolutely HUGE changes to athleticism once puberty hits. My son for example, yes he's a boy but the principle applies, always looked like he was running with an elephant AND a piano on his back. He took speed and agility, it...
I have been in the travel baseball world for 10 years. It's given me perspective on things.
1. Being trained on multiple positions is vital for the health of the team.
2. The coach should listen to where the parents and players want to play, and then do what is best for the team. If a kid...
That sounds a lot like my philosophy. I've met a lot of people over my years in baseball. I already have two high school girls lined up to come help with pitching. Every parent I have spoken to said that in the past there have been a chosen few in pitching, and their kid didn't get a chance...
Thank you all! I will read up on this board and the internet for sure! We had our draft last night.....I went in with baseball knowledge, I'm hoping it works out. They all got scores on running, fielding, throwing, and hitting.
Running: My experience has been that I won't be able to do much...
So sad that I am not the only one with that problem.
I just got a 10u softball team. My only qualifications are watching 10 years of travel baseball and a lot of patience....I hope it's enough. Any advice would be great!
Sorry if I'm in the wrong spot on this board. My 9 year old daughter wanted to try REC softball, an email went out that unless they found another coach they wouldn't be able to hold the draft. Okay then, I volunteered.
My qualifications are watching youth baseball for the last 10 years...
