CIF-SS rules doesn't seem to state much other than awards given in rule 805. Is it legal for a coach to take his team out for say a pizza dinner after a game? In the past coaches have been arrested for providing excessive gifts, sometimes including food, but that's usually over $250-500 for a single player. So would it be ok to treat the team to a couple pizzas or do they have to pay for it themselves?

Is this high school?

I'm not sure of specific rules but I would say it has the wording "excessive gifts" then dinner should be no problem, especially if its just pizza.

Anecdotally - in high school we would stop by a popular (cheap) restaurant on the way home from certain away games and our coach would buy us all food. We also would have bagels during our one early morning/all day practice but I can't say if there was some sort of booster club funding that.

I promise(d) my 16U rec-ball girls last year we'd go for ice cream after a game we won (we never won a game, for the record). I revert back to what my LL coach used to do for us - cone/dish for the players, game ball girl gets whatever she wants. Makes ME feel like a kid again.

I don't think taking the team out of pizza would be considered excessive as long as you take the whole team.
