In an attempt to strengthen DD's confidence and development, she is working on setting some attainable goals for herself. When searching online for resources, I came across these two websites that have given us some guidance:

Softball One, Inc. Cara Johnson-Hirsch Fastpitch Instruction, College Recruiting Consulting, and Skills Video Production

My DD recently started catching so when we were discussing goals her initial response was pretty vague..."I want to get better at dropping/blocking." We're working on being more specific so I'm interested in any tips/ideas that others may have. If you and/or your daughters have set goals, what are some examples that meet these guidelines? Do you feel that setting goals has helped them to develop?

Catching related goals. Easy!

1. Spend $40 on the NECC DVD "Coaches Guide to Training Catchers"
2. Watch the DVD (2.75 hrs)
3. Practice!

Blocking-specific goals - scale progressively

1. Successfully recognize that a block is necessary xx% of the time
2. Execute proper blocking technique xx% of the time (don't worry if the block is successful or not!)
3. Successfully execute blocks xx% of the time
4. Same as #3, but in game situations
5. Expect all blocks to be successful!
