SS took a 2 step flying dive at a screaming line drive, had ball caught and only came out when glove hit ground. ump called it right as no catch.

but is it scored as an error because ball was first caught then dropped with contact with ground or infield hit because of more then ordinary effort on the part of the SS for the flying dive attempt.

Hit every time. That kind of scoring short-changes everyone but the pitcher.

An error is the failure to make a routine play, not the failure to make an outstanding or even above-average one. Someone going horizontal for a ball obviously goes beyond routine / ordinary. The fact that the ball was touched or even held a bit is irrelevant.

Agree with the consensus here, as described it's certainly a hit. Lot's of scorekeepers will still revert to that old rule of thumb though and chalk it up as an error because it hit the glove.

Depends on who is doing the scoring and the relation of the player to that person.
