1. You can’t overrun first and turn LEFT to come straight back to first without risk of being tagged out. False

2. You can’t round a base while the pitcher has the ball in the circle and stop once then go directly to either base. False

3. If there’s a force out, aside from the batter-runner going to first (not technically a force, I know), you cannot run back to the base you came from to avoid a tag or you’re automatically out. False

4. If you are in fair territory and touch a ball in the air over foul territory it is a fair ball. False

5. If you get hit by a batted ball you’re automatically out. False

6. The defense cannot use the safety base at first. False

7. If the batter-runner beats the throw-to-catch at the bag at first but misses the bag she is out. False

8. A foul tip with less than two strikes is a dead ball – so, for instance, a runner who stole a base would have to go back. False

9. Both feet have to be on the pitching rubber when the pitcher starts her motion. False

10. On an infield fly rule, if the ball is not caught the runner cannot advance until the ball is touched. False

11. The pitchers drag foot has to be touching the ground through delivery at all times. False

12. Tagging the base when the runner left early on a caught fly ball is a force out. False

Proof:

1. NFHS Case Book 2014. Rule 2.40 Situation A.

2. NFHS Rules Book 2014. Rule 8.7.2

3. NFHS Case Book 2014. Rule 8.2.8 Situation B.

4. NFHS Rules Book 2014. Rule 2.25.1.c

5. NFHS Rules Book 2014.Rule 8.8.4 – if the ball passes the infielder excluding the pitcher and no one else has a chance to make a play the runner is not out.

6. NFHS Rules Book 2014. Rule 8.10.2.a – defense may use…on any force out attempt from the foul side of first base.

7. NFHS Rules Book 2014. Rule 2.1.10 – you have to appeal before she returns to the base (ex., tag her).

8. NFHS Case Book 2014. Rule 2.25.2

9. NFHS Rules Book 2014. Rule 6.1.1

10. ASA Rules 8.4.L offers clarification. If the ball falls to the ground the runner can advance.

11. ASA Rules 6.3.K (Fast Pitch) offers clarification. If a hole has been created, the pivot foot may drag no higher than level plane of ground.

12. NFHS Rules Book 2014. 2.1.3.a; 2.1.12 – it is an appeal play and a timing play, therefore not a force. It is like a force in that you can tag the bag, but because it is a timing play it is not a force.
