DD just started in November. First video is in mid-December and second video is mid-March. Tell me what you see, good or bad, so we can continue to improve. It was very windy in second video, but I had a rare opportunity of her pitching to someone else, so I shot some video.

I should mention that I think she was working on her drop ball when the 2nd video was taken.

This shows Jenny Finch's footwork. Do you see her stepping toward the catcher after release? No. Compare that to your DD. Your DD is taking one or two steps toward the catcher after release--the result is less speed.

Your DD should stop her body (not her arm) at release. Her right foot should stay behind her left foot.

Needs to work on leg drive. She is basically just taking a step instead of leaping and dragging. There are numerous discussions and sticky's on the site about improving drive mechanics.

Thanks for the responses. I knew posture was an issue and now know to focus some attention on leg drive as well.

Hi Stutz,
Don't take this the wrong way, but you mentioned she started in November. She's already working on a drop and a change up? You need to correct some of the issues that are going on before focusing on additional pitches. Frankly, if the pitching coach has introduced change up and drop before she has the absolute basics of throwing a ball underhand...I think you may want to re-evaluate the coach. That forward lean that was evident and pointed out when you shared the first video a while back has not improved. Fix it now or it will haunt you...and the more she throws without correcting it, the more difficult it will be for her to correct down the road.

Mr. Rope,

I asked for help. Criticism is part of the solution. She started lessons in November. She actually started pitching last summer, but neither of us knew what we were doing. What you guys say makes plenty of sense. We will certainly spend our time on posture and leg drive. She doesn't spend much time with the other stuff, but does like to throw a few "other pitches" after she has gotten her work in. However, in hind sight, maybe we should just focus on the fastball until her mechanics are better.

Thanks.
