First pitch, batter pops up just on the foul side of first base. Fielder is in position but the ball pops out of her glove - foul ball. Pitch two batter singles to LC. Is this still recorded in the book as a hit or error since batter should have been out on the pop up. It created an interesting discussion but no one knew for sure either way.
Thx

Different plays entirely because they occurred on different pitches. The hit is a hit!

The previous pitch, which resulted in the dropped pop-up in foul territory, should have been recorded as an error. It is not ROE for the hitter, but E3, nonetheless.

And to add, the E does not go against the batter when calculating AVE or other rate stats, to them it is just the same as any other foul while batting.

Should that batter score though, the run is unearned to the pitcher.
