Thanks, Comp. I didn't make a stink about it on the off chance I might be wrong lol, but the ball did hit the dirt which, IMO gave the batter only a lucky guess to avoid it anyway. Batter just took the pitch and was awarded a ball. The umpire was very clear in making the call - and explaining it to the adoring crowd - so I shut my mouth after confirming it was a ball.Yes, ASA still requires an attempt to avoid. And for that matter, the other rule sets still do also unless the ball is entirely within the batters box.
